Hello! I’ve been running my Plex library for a while, with files sourced all different kinds of ways, and this is the first time I’ve run into this issue: a file I’m adding to the library just never shows up in the library UI. Here’s more info:
- The file is a fairly plain .mp4. I have many other files created the same way; they all appear fine in Plex. The file can be played locally—or from the Plex library folder location—just fine, in pretty much any player.
- I’m putting it in the same place in the library where a bunch of other files are
- When I add the file, I see Plex wake up to re-scan that folder
- I’ve tried optimizing my library; it made no difference
Here’s where I see the file in Plex logs:
Aug 01, 2020 13:58:54.274 [0x700009145000] DEBUG - Request: [127.0.0.1:61428 (Loopback)] PUT /activities/[redacted file path and name]
Aug 01, 2020 13:58:54.274 [0x700009145000] DEBUG - Activity: updated activity [redacted] - completed 4.5% - Scanning TV
Aug 01, 2020 13:58:54.274 [0x70000903f000] DEBUG - Completed: [127.0.0.1:61428] 200 PUT /activities/[redacted file path and name] (7 live) GZIP 0ms 166 bytes
Aug 01, 2020 13:58:54.939 [0x11cfd8dc0] INFO - Library section 2 (TV) will be updated because of a change in '"[redacted file path and name]'
I see no other mentions of this file, and no other error messages that stand out. So everything seems to be “fine,” but the video isn’t visible in my Plex library. I’ve tried accessing it on several devices, and it’s just… not there. Not under Movies, or TV, or found by searching for its name.
Plex also says it’s not currently running any transcoding sessions.
If I drag in other files after, they appear immediately, the way you’d expect. I’m guessing Plex doesn’t like something about this file, but I can’t tell what. Is there anything else I can debug to solve it?
Thanks!
