File or Folder renaming

Hi smart folks,

I have several files and folders that exist on a Synology store, that are part of a Plex library. If I were to rename them, would that cause any issues for the library? I assume that I’d have to rescan the Library, or would Plex simply note the file & folder name changes?

Oh, and can a folder have the format of " (year)", i.e. “Synology (2018)”, without causing any issues?

Thanks!

Not as smart guy …

Howdy Trumpy!

What’s good down under? Thanks for the response.

Yep, Q5 was followed, even before I knew to do so. And nope, not touch the root, just some sub-folders and their contents.

Just to be sure, there’s no issue renaming the various movies, and not just the folders?

Down under, looking up …

I don’t like the idea of deleting and recreating files, as that would take forever.

So if I had a file named:
Day 2 Session #11-Group Shoot-HD (Jonny Appleseed)

And renamed it to something like:
11-Group Shoot (Jonny Appleseed - Posing 101)

would this be a drastic or basic change, as Plex would see it?

Yep, I knew that it was the Plex server that did the renaming. And I also knew that it didn’t actually touch my data. If I remember correctly, I believe it only has Read and Execute permissions to the data, but I could be wrong.

I set 'em … once upon a time. I don’t remember what I set 'em to though. :yum:

Yep. I reset the permissions about 6 weeks ago or so. Everything is working as expected, kind sir.

Could you elaborate on this a little more please ? Is there any way to force it to not do the delete and create dance ? I assume with the normal rename the file is not rescanned or anything just changed internally in the db ?
