Renaming Plex folder inside NAS

Is there any way to rename the Plex folder to something else?

Only renaming causes plex to stop working.

Thanks!

No, you can’t rename it but you can relocate it. If you leave the starting point at its default location and then jump off from there, Plex will never know. One question is why move it? Is it showing up as a share? It shouldn’t be.

Well, synology has a horrible lowercase naming convention. I just wanted to rename "Plex" to "plex" so everything would look perfect. Nothing major, just ascetics. : ) Thanks!

Yeah,  I'm not too pleased with the use of upper case on a synology either.   Talk about being an odd-ball name.

If it's any consolation, you can rename (capitalise) the other folders on the NAS including the default folders for Synology Media Server/VideoStation etc...

Can you? Last time i tried that, it recreated all the folders using lower case... Did u do anything special?

If I recall correctly, I edited the folders in shared folders, but I had to stop the packages from running first.

I did this before I had added any media to the NAS though.

I was about to edit all the folders, when I realized I had issues renaming the "homes" and  the "home" folders last time =/ I think I never found how to edit those.

‘home’ is a special name, as is ‘homes’ and must NOT be touched. It would be equivalent to renaming /bin to /Bin on a Linux box. … It would die

I think I managed to rename the folder…

ssh to the box.
sudo nano /var/packages/Plex\ Media\ Server/target/plex_library_path

I changed Plex to plex, because I wanted lower case to match the other folders.
saved with ctrl-x

I renamed the folder via Control Panel -> Shared Folder
stopped and started Plex.

Seems to be working.

I don’t know why someone would want to do that but as long as DSM can track where the folder actually is and return that information to me, I don’t care where it is. I get the current location of the Plex share at each startup.
