File priority for the same movie

Hello,

I use 2 files format for the same movie (.mp4 & .mkv). These files are in the same folder.
When i look for media detail, mkv is always in priority one. (see atachment)
I would like to know if it’s possible to change order. So, the player will load .mp4 by default

If the files are otherwise the same quality, then I don’t know what Plex chooses to play, but then it wouldn’t really matter much I think. As for the screenshot, I think the only reason one shows above the other is that MKV comes before MP4 alphabetically.

If the files are different, Plex is “supposed” to pick the file that is more compatible with whatever client you requested the movie from. For example, an iphone with 720p resolution would not need a 1080p video file, so Plex would try to pick whichever file would fit without transcoding, as long as both files are supported by the iphone app’s video player.

How are these files different? How are you able to detect which of the two is used?

Hello,

The 2 files are differents, .mkv is a DVD backup with all audio tracks and subtitles, no compression.
I use .mp4 to play movie from my local network, content is similar but bitrate is lower and only 1 audio track.

When Plex scan folder the first time (new file), sometimes .mp4 is first and sometimes not ! i don’t know exactly how plex manage files.

Player in my tv box don’t permit to select file to play. I note file selected is the first in list in attachement. I will hope to read only .mp4 in first.

Thanks
