This is a problem that I created myself but do not know how to fix. I am new to Plex.
Added all my files at once. Everything showed up nicely. I was going through the “Fix Match” option to set all my metadata and set 2 similar shows to the same thing and one of the completely vanished. Though, no big deal I will just “Unmatch”, Well that did not work. I removed the files completely out of the scan directories, went into Troubleshooting, did both a “Clean Bundles” and “Optimize Database”. Then moved the directories back thinking that they would just add back. But no luck. It is a mini series both the original and the remake so the both have the same name but the naming convention is very different as are the files. The original was all in one giant mp4 whereas the remake is broken up into each episode. If I now add the remake it appears fine but if I add the original it does not seem to appear anywhere. Bear in mind, they both where in there at the same time before I started messing with things.
I am having the same problem with another series but now none of the show up.
I have no idea what logs to look at or post as there are quite a few.
If anyone could point me in a direction that would be great.
Have you added the year to each of those folders in parentheses for the corresponding version?
If they are matching as a duplicate you can change the library view at the top from TV Shows to Episodes and then use the drop down to the left of that and just look for duplicates.
For movies I know there’s an option to “split apart” but honestly I never had that issue with a tv show. Not sure if it’s the same.
If you click into the individual show view you can also look where it says versions. It will say something like 720p and 1 more if there are two with the same name and episode number.
There are year markings in parentheses. I have tried your episodes suggestion but no dups show. I then switched the view to folder and low and behold the folder did appear but is says that it is empty. I have both double checked that the file does in fact exist and does play fine. I tried renaming it slightly but it still does not show up. I even made a copy of the file but no luck. I am stumped. I have a few more things I want to try but am open to more suggestions.
Follow Plex recommended naming and organization for TV shows. /TV Shows/ShowName (year) {tvdb-12345}/Season xx/ShowName (year) sXXeYY.ext
Adding the TVDB or TMDB ID to the folder name is optional, but tells Plex the exact match.
sXXeYY is mandatory. Do not try to use alternate naming structures such as 0x01, etc.
If all episodes are in a single file, you can either a) split it into individual episodes, or b) use the Multi Episodes in a Single File naming. See support doc linked above for details.
After renaming / restructuring a show, Plex Dance the entire series. This removes incorrect matching information from the Plex database.
Here is something interesting I found. I have deleted the directory from my hard drive but in folder view the directory is still showing up. Any thoughts?
Well it looks like it came down to the naming convention. Did it exactly as you suggested and it showed up. Still have those empty directories that no longer exist showing up. Now for the hard part… Any ideas on how to quickly rename 125 files??? Or am I just in for a long night of retyping?
Many people use Filebot. It is quite powerful and can rename an entire library in minutes.
Tiny Media Manager is also very useful, and free. I’ve used it on several movies with the pattern ${title} (${year}) {imdb-${imdb}}. You can easily set a pattern for TV shows that matches Plex’s naming standards.
PowerRenamer in Microsoft Power Tools is helpful for simple renaming with pattern matches or regular expressions. It makes quick work of tasks such as adding a year to file names, removing undesirable text from multiple files, etc. Simple example: Rip a TV show with MakeMKV and all the episodes have _tXX at the end. You can remove it from all episodes in just a few seconds.
Scanning the library and emptying trash should remove movies/shows/etc that no longer exist.
I never use folder view, but I think the same procedure also cleans up that view.
If the directories exist, but are empty, you might need to delete them.
