Files doubled across different folders

Ok, some time ago I had one movie folder on Plex. I found that some things I had downloaded into my p.c. never showed up on Plex. Most were from streaming services such as DC, or CBS. Couldn’t for the life of me figure out why the never showed up. So one day, I made a new folder on Plex, called videos. Hence forth they all showed up. I also made a folder for 3D Videos only, that works pretty good. I re-name all those on my p.c. as 3D movie title year.Half-SBS, works fine. My problem is, most of the stuff in movies, also went into videos. So these shows are in 2 places. Today, I made a folder on my p.c. and on Plex and named it T.V. I moved all the videos, that were more or less t.v. on my p.c. into the new t.v. shows Video sub-folder. Now on my Plex libraries some of these show up in up to 3 places. Movies, Videos and T.V. Shows. It seems if I delete a show from somewhere I don’t want it on Ples, it deletes from everywhere on Plex. Is there some whay to get rid of the duplicates? Could it be the way I re-name things on my p.c.? I just shorten everything to the show title and year, to make things short and sweet. Example: Titans S01E01 2019. I would sure like to clean up the mess I have made.

First and foremost: https://support.plex.tv/articles/201543057-why-is-some-of-my-content-not-found/

  1. don’t use the pre-defined folder structure of Windows with its own brand of “libraries”. They don’t work well and interfere with regular operation of Plex. Create a separate folder structure outside of that.
  2. Separate your videos by “Movies”, “Series” and “unmatchable content” (i.e. stuff that is neither listed on https://www.themoviedb.org/ nor on https://www.thetvdb.com/ ) and put them into different folders, which are not stacked into each other, but are situated beside each other.
Then create separate Plex libraries for “Movies”, “TV Shows” (Series) and “Other Videos” (Unmatchable Content) and point each of those libraries to only the one folder which holds only this type of content.
  3. There are additional rules, in particular for series, which you need to adhere to if you want your content to get recognized correctly: https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/your-media/

I don’t really understand everything you told me but thanks for helping. I have things fixed a bit better now. I can’t make a folder that doesn’t separate from Videos, so I put Television shows into “documents”. Out of 11 titles I have in there only 4 have shown up. I’m perPlexed. I have tried re-naming my shows as .TV Shows, or TV Shows Title Year. I have all of Titans in there, All of Watchmen, All of Pennyworth. But I have a few old Alfred Hitchcock Presents that won’t show up, The Merlin made for T.V. movie won’t go in, and a couple other things. I don’t see a way here to send you a screen shot or I would.

Why is that? You are on Windows, you can make almost any folder you want.

So I put in a program called “files to foldergui” It created a sub-folder for “Videos” I called TV. Shows. It put the folder right where I go to make a new folder under videos. Only difference I see is I put my media into the foleder via the new program. Now that the folder is there I can aadd to it as I wish (just like before) I got rid of all the folders on Plex that I recently created and just left Videos (Under Movies) and 3D videos (Under other videos). Those have been alright up to now. Next I created (once again under other videos) “Videos/T.V.Shows” So now my Plex has only 3 places to put my media. Whatever I did seems to be working, Everything is where it belongs, nothing is doubled and tripled up all over the place. only problem so far is nothing in the new t.v. Plex folder is in any order. Series all over the place, Nothing is in order. I can live with that. thanks again for your help.
