Hi Guys, have been using Plex Media Server for the past few years running on a windows machine without any issues. I wanted to organise my media in a more effective way on my external drive, currently both movies & tv shows are located in a folder called “media” in the root of drive, using this method I have never had any issues with artwork or the correct title being matched. I created a new structure Media/Movies/HD/ however whenever I add a new movie it fails to match correctly, the same for TV Shows which I followed the same folder structure. Any ideas what may be causing the issue as eventually if I can get the above to work then I want to add a 4K folder and restrict external access.
I take it you have mounted that external drive to a drive letter on the Windows machine that’s running the Plex Media Server. To what exact path are your movie and tv-show libraries pointing?
If the folder structure looks like this:
P:
Media
Movies
HD
4K
TV Shows
HD
SD
You should link your movie library to the following folders
P:\Media\Movies\HD\
P:\Media\Movies\4K\
… and the TV-Show library to the respective folders
P:\Media\TV Shows\SD\
P:\Media\TV Shows\HD\
Make sure to properly name/organize your files inside those folders. That’s particularly important for tv-shows.
Currently my content is as follows F:\media with all the movies & TV files together and I have no issues, it’s only when I create the folders F:\media\movies\hd that I start to see the issues.
Could the path’s in my library settings be causing an issue as currently I have them both listed as I wanted to test the process before moving My entire library.
That’s the thing i had no issues before I tried splitting the folders, ideally I want the content separated however I’m not having much luck and can’t figure out why?
No issue at all, ideally that’s how I want to organise it but I can’t understand why it worked before and now using the structure I listed the few movies I have moved don’t get recognised
I managed to get everything organised as i originally wanted apart from two TV Shows which can been seen below, any thoughts on how i can match correctly?
The screenshot of the file names show the name only has the season marker (s01 or s02) with no episode marker (e01, e02, etc). Also you can put the entire show series in one directory so Media > TV Shows > The Deuce > Season 1, Season 2
The simple truth is that Plex won’t digest your current naming schema.
Plex expects a schema like this:
TV Shows <- the folder linked to your Plex library
Show Name
Season XX
Show Name - sXXeYY - optional title.ext
Where .ext is the file extension, XX is the season and YY is the episode number.
In your example, the Library needs to point at F:\Media\TV Shows\HD\.
Don’t add extra layers of folders (e.g. by pointing the library at F:\Media\TV Shows\) or leave levels out (e.g. by naming the top-level folder The Deuce.S01 and The Deuce.S02…); preferably don’t include technical gibberish in your folder structure.
