Files not being picked up even with correct naming conventions

Did you do the plex dance ?
This means moving all of the problematic files in a folder where Plex will not detect them, do a scan, verify that the problematic files are not there, put them back into the folder where they are supposed to be, and rescan ?

In addition, a screenshot of your problematic “Lost S01” files would be helpful.

i just did the dance, the first screenshot are the ones not showing up properly only with the custom folder setting

The ones which are showing up perfectly are these directly from the root folder

so you have two folders for the same season 1 for your show.

First, you should have only folder named Season 1 inside a folder Lost
Both quality files should be put inside that folder.

you will have multiple versions of the same file in 1080 and 720p
I believe the resolution should be at the end for plex to do the difference.

Following your instructions i put the 720p file as well in the folder which was working, should i just rescan and try it, but will it then still show two episode 1’s???

i updated the filename also like this
Lost_S01E01_5.1Ch_720p_BluRay_ReEnc_DeeJayAhmed

Bad naming!

See: https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/

Never, ever add the main folder (or even the ‘Season’ folder, like in this example) of a tv show directly to a library. It won’t work.

The correct path would have been simply Y:\TV SHOWS

as a point of constant amazement I do giggle to myself when I see the names folks use for their files and folder – yes I know torrents are widely used and some are lazy about renaming but do try and hide it a little bit folks

yes i did the Y:\TV SHOWS and as i mentioned above only the files under lost 1080p are getting picked up(all seasons are fine) but the moment i put in the 720p folder they dont work. I even tried putting the 720p episodes in the already existent folder which is getting picked up with the same working name convention
Lost_S01E01_x265_1080p_BluRay_30nama_30NAMA - 720p - new file
Lost_S01E01_x265_1080p_BluRay_30nama_30NAMA - working file

i was thinking that might be the issue and changed it as follows. Normally many of them dont have an issue,. i was not able to play the 1080p files on my firestick 4k so had to get some 720p files

TV Shows/
   Lost (2004) [1080p]/
      Season 01/
         Lost - S01E01 - [optional info].mkv
         ...
   Lost (2004) [720p]/
      Season 01/
         Lost - S01E01 - [optional info].mkv
         ...

i just followed your message and named it as follows, but when i rescanned plex dont see the file

As mentioned above is it due to multiple files of the same show in different formats?

Did you change the folder in the library properties to just Y:\TV SHOWS?

it never changed, i removed the one which you pointed out as i was trying something, its always been Y:\TV SHOWS as others were getting picked up

Are the files on a Synology NAS?
Can you access them from the Windows computer, using the regular Windows file explorer?

(I’m trying to determine if this is an “access permissions” issue.)

Have you tried the Plex Dance?

yeah like one of the moderators mentioned, i did the plex dance and created the folder once you gave me the instructions. yes they are on synology nas, i can access them both from a network drive and browser as well

if you do as @OttoKerner suggested,

TV Shows/
   Lost (2004) [1080p]/
      Season 01/
         Lost - S01E01 - [optional info].mkv
         ...
   Lost (2004) [720p]/
      Season 01/
         Lost - S01E01 - [optional info].mkv
         ...

You should end up with something similar to this screenshot when you navigate to a season for the show,

The little blue “2” indicates there are 2 versions of the file. I believe every player has an option to select the version you want to play, and some will do it automatically. The indicator should also show up in “On Deck” and “Continue Watching” on the home screen

yes i see the blue absolutely and i thought the same when it all started, but unable to find the two versionsimage

yes on the home screen, i can select play version and can select… now i see them… looks like the file naming convention has been always showing the blue and 2 files but i didnt know how to play them, this helps now… have to try it on firestick 4k
@leelynds @OttoKerner @dane22 @darcilicious @anon5074910 thanks for your help

If you go to the top level of that show, you can ‘Split’ it. This will give you two separate shows in the library.

However, this leads to double entries in OnDeck.
