Library not uploading most of movies

Versão 1.48.2.3124-647ff031
Player Version# i9 10th Windows 10

I am a user for about 4 years
I decided to upgrade to an i9 10h computer with Windows 10 and I’m starting from scratch
I have the same folder in another i7 3rd computer with windows 7 and other in a Synology. They don’t have this problem
Just as an example, The folder has 438 movies but library is uploading only 59
Another folder in the same computer with about 500 movies, it uploads 494 to the library. The other 6 can be mkv files or empty subfolders. Just two duplicated
About those two folders, nothing is different between them. I never renamed files or folders, always just leaving the names from the download. It works for one folder but doesn’t work for the other
The same folder is ok in other systems. They are in normal use now
I’m trying to attach log but i need your help, my english is not enough to understand the forum
Certainly is not a new topic but I coudn’t find where to post
Just for the record, as a user for 4 years, I now the naming rules for files names but the files and folders are the same I used all this time with no problem. They are the same I use in the i7 3rd with windows 7 that I used all those years and in my NAS Synology
Just for the record too, 432 files are mp4 in this folder where only 59 movies are uploaded to the libray
I am controling this situation ading one folders one by one. THis is when I saw that only 59 from 438 where added to the library

Thank you

One key thing to understand, if you added those movies years ago, the plex file scanner was different then, it may have correctly parsed non-standard file names. However over time plex has dropped support for some naming schemas, because your files where already scanned you where not affected. After rebuilding on a new server, those bad file names are now an issue.

Plex DocumentationYour Media

Adding to @dbirch’s advice, the closer you follow Plex’s naming requirements, the better. Also, take advantage of the capability to add IMDB/TMDB/TVDB IDs to the folder and file names. That tells Plex exactly which movie/show to match. It is especially helpful when there have been multiple remakes of a movie or reboots of a TV show (ex: A Christmas Carol: 1901, 1935, 1938, 1951, 1970, 1984, 1988, 1992, 2009)

You need not rename media manually. There are tools that can help automate the process.

Many people use Filebot. It is quite powerful and can rename an entire library in minutes.

Tiny Media Manager is also very useful, and free. I’ve used it on several movies with the pattern ${title} (${year}) {imdb-${imdb}}. You can easily set a pattern for TV shows that matches Plex’s naming standards.

PowerRenamer in Microsoft Power Tools is helpful for simple renaming with pattern matches or regular expressions. It makes quick work of tasks such as adding a year to file names, removing undesirable text from multiple files, etc. Simple example: Rip a TV show with MakeMKV and all the episodes have _tXX at the end. You can remove it from all episodes in just a few seconds.

Thanks for your help
I understand that the files are scanned anyway but metadata couldn’t be found
My folder plex 9, was created on 12/2020, it has 434 files and 426 were succesfully read to the library
My folder plex 5, was created on 04/2020, it has 438 files and only 59 were read
The folder naming and files naming are the same
As Einstein said, you can’t have the same experiment with two different outcomes. Something must be wrong
I lost a lot of work due to updates and I decided to buy a powerfull desktop, udpate windows start from scratch. But I expect to have all my library in the new system
I think that the log must be analysed. I can’t do it
Now they are on the same internal Hd. a folder is almost completely scanned and the other doesn’t. It doesn’t make sense

Can you perform a library scan, post your server logs, the file path and file name of a missing piece of media?

yes I can
How can I post the log?

You should able able to gather your server logs via the yellow linked text in this post. and attach them in your reply to this post.

Well I’ll prepare the log
I’ll restart from scratch
I’ll empty my library and scan only the folder I’m talking about
Thanks for your patience but I cound’t find any yellow link

server logs is a link that goes to Plex Media Server Logs | Plex Support

Hello dbirch
I restarded from scratch
I cleaned all my library
I’ve created a new folder
I have copied only 20 files inside the new
Plex Media Server Logs_2022-07-14_14-47-33.zip (3.3 MB)
folder
The library added only 3, including the one with the longer path

Bellow, we have the 3 it added
M:\Teste Plex\A Life Less Ordinary (1997) [1080p] [YTS.AG]
A.Life.Less.Ordinary.1997.1080p.BluRay.x264-[YTS.AG].mp4

M:\Teste Plex\Abbott And Costello Meet Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde (1953) [1080p] [BluRay] [YTS.LT]

Alive.1993.1080p.WEBRip.x264.AAC5.1-[YTS.LT].mp4

I’m using two line iin the text, on for the path and the other to the file

Now, bellow , 3 of the 17 not added
M:\Teste Plex\A Night At The Opera (1935) [1080p] [WEBRip] [YTS.MX]

M:\Teste Plex\Adam’s Rib (1949) [1080p] [WEBRip] [YTS.MX]
Adam’s.Rib.1949.1080p.WEBRip.x264.AAC-[YTS.MX].mp4

Thanks for you help

  1. The files could have embedded metadata throwing off the Plex agent. If enabled, configure Plex to not look at embedded metadata. Edit the library, choose Advanced, uncheck the box for Prefer local metadata, save changes.

  1. Clean up your naming.
  • Adding the IMDB or TMDB ID tells Plex which movie to match. Note the use of curly, not square or round, brackets.
  • If you want to keep other info in the name, put it inside one set of square brackets at the end of the folder/file name.
M:\Teste Plex\
...\A Night at the Opera (1935)\A Night at the Opera (1935).mp4
...\Adams Rib (1949) {imdb-tt0041090}\Adams Rib (1949) {imdb-tt0041090}.mp4
...\A Quiet Place to Kill (1970) [other stuff]\A Quiet Place to Kill (1970) [other stuff].mp4
etc.

  1. Plex Dance the movie after renaming.

On my server:
PMS 1.27.2.5929

Hi FordGuy, thanks for your answer.

Sorry, I’m really not understanding.

  1. you’re focusing on metada but even without finding the metadata, movies used to be added to the library. I think it keeps adding because in another folder I have only 2 of about 600 movies unmatched. So, it add files even when it doesn’t find metada to match.

  2. Doesn’t make sense, using the same naming, have 98% scanned in a folder and 1% in another. In the same HD, downloaded from the same place.
What is different beetwen the 3 it added and the 3 it didn’t add

I would like to know what exactly the log file shows when it fails to add those files.
I don’t see renaming all files as solution and that it addresses to the exact problem
I’m giving an exemple but I have 15k files to rename. I don’t want to change all of them without being 100% sure on what I’m doing
I lost everything twice with PMS upgrades. It doesn’t make sense to upgrade from a version with broader capabilities to another with narrower as it’s happening now.

It worked this way all this time and is working adding files from another folder

P.S1. Interesting, you added mkv files. Everywhere I read that Plex have problems with mkv files
P.S2. I’ll try renaming on this test folder and see what happens
P.S.3 It seems that it stops scanning, it takes very little time to scan the folder it adds1% of the files comparing to the other one it adds 98%. Maybe a corrupted file or a corrupted file name or path aborts the scanning

Looking at the logs Plex is finding A Life Less Ordinary and is matching it. [2200] DEBUG - Updating metadata item (save) (A Life Less Ordinary) with ID 13762 Check your library for duplicate files.

Also try in plex, editing one of the movies that is detected and go info section and post a screenshot.

Hi
On this test folder, I have no duplicated movie or files
As I started from scratch with that test. This is the only folder I have
Other folder can have duplicated files or movies but is not the problem in this one.
I have duplicate movies with different versions in my whole library

The movie you are talking about is one of the three added to the library, so I don’t understand what you are trying to tell me

“Also try in plex, editing one of the movies that is detected and go info section and post a screenshot.”

Is this what you want. I coudn’t print a screenshot

That is not the info I need. That appears to be the Windows file properties. I need you to go into the Plex library and view the information there.

You said you have 20 movies in a folder, and Plex is only seeing 3 of them. One of the missing movies is A Life Less Ordinary

I have a suspicion that plex is combining the movies in your library by mistake.

The library added only 3, including the one with the longer path

Bellow, we have the 3 it added
M:\Teste Plex\A Life Less Ordinary (1997) [1080p] [YTS.AG]

Thanks for you help

This is one of the three it added

Ok, I think there was a bit of confusion, Can you provide an example of a filename that is in the library that plex should have added but failed to do so?

Now, bellow , 3 of the 17 not added
M:\Teste Plex\A Night At The Opera (1935) [1080p] [WEBRip] [YTS.MX]
A.Night.At.The.Opera.1935.1080p.WEBRip.x264.AAC-[YTS.MX].mp4

They are not in the library because It failed to add them
