Yeah, same here, upgraded last night, just trying to figure it out now. If I get it working I’ll let you know.
Yup, me too…
Got mine working guys, check your shared folder permissions. Plex access was removed.
I wanted this to be released before 1.15.4 went out. That was out of my hands.
Here is my release announcement . Please feel free to ask if there are any questions.
OK, after changing my folders permissions, it works… I also had to reconfigure external access and library settings.
Well, I have tried the suggestions by ChuckPA, as indeed the plex user had no more access to the media share, after installing this update… However, no luck!
I’ve tried setting access to Read Only and Read/Write. I’ve tried changing owner of ALL folders and files in the media share to plex user, making sure permissions are set correctly, rebooting NAS in-between changes, etc… No luck… Nothing works. All media remains UNAVAILABLE!
I have a Synology NAS DS214+, DSM version DSM 6.2.2-24922.
I suppose there’s nothing else to do then to attempt to revert to the previous version of Plex Server and never update it again…? Anybody has a better idea?
Exactly the same issue here. Tried read/write, read only, rebooting, restarting plex, no joy at all.
Anyone able to provide instructions to downgrade, I’ve spent hours trying to get this going again with no joy.
Looks like this version of Plex server is only seeing one level of folders.
I have setup for instance /volume1/Multimedia/Movies
Now to add a folder I can only see /volume1/Multimedia, I can’t browse to the Movies folder within Multimedia.
Reverted back to 1.15.3.876-ad6e39743, all working again. Adding folders to the server can see all levels again for instance /volume1/Multimedia/Movies.
Latest version will not see all levels of folders. I tried R/W permissions.
Problem is latest version will only see for instance /volume1/Multimedia, it will not see: /volume1/Multimedia/Movies.
Permissions are set correctly, but latest version of Plex server will not allow user to browse all levels of folders.
Look at this screenshot, latest version will not allow me to select /Movies folder, furthest it will browse to is /volume1/Multimedia
Respectfully,
If the permissions were correct, it would work.
Did you modify the permissions at the command line level?
I am having technical difficulties and can’t see the screenshots.
But this is what you should have for “Multimedia”.
For the movies folder which is inside it, presuming nothing was set manually, it will work as is.

Changing the owner of files/folders to the plex user was a desperate action in an attempt to get things going.
I’ve followed the instructions as outlined in “Q18: How do I manually set file permissions using SSH?” and that actually has fixed the problem! My media is now accessible again!
Can’t say I understand why that suddenly become a problem after this release, but oh well…
Thanks for the help!
Respectfully, READ/WRITE or READ ONLY should BOTH work.
Please clearly state the following:
Read/write should not make any difference.
but I don’t want to set them recursively…
I have other folders within multimedia shared folder that SABNZB uses and nothing to do with Plex. Setting recursively would change permissions for those folders that I dont want changed.
So again:
So what is being advised here? Should Multimedia folder be owned by ‘Admin’?
trumy81’s suggestion to follow the explanation at Q18 solved this issue for me. If you don’t want to apply those privileges to the entire media share, you can apply them to its subfolders… If you’re a little bit familiar with how those commands work, this shouldn’t be an issue.
My media share was also owned by root, like you say. After applying those privileges it is owned by user “admin”, group “users”.
I also had the same problem that you describe: that Plex wouldn’t see further into the media share. This was caused by the same “access denied” problem: Plex just couldn’t see into the sub folders…
