Find where to watch something with "Discover" and your "Watchlist"

yeah, I like that on other services. I sort of get that aleady on Plex-Meta-Manager but that requires a third party app and only applies to the local collection

I didn’t say they were only for kids. But many people do use it for that and until we can come up with a way that restrictions work with the external services we felt it safer than Discover showing questionable content to managed accounts

Think it depends with source

I can understand adding this service from Plex’s point of view. It’s a modern replacement for the old plugin structure.

However, I have the following issues. The first is certainly a bug. The rest are my thoughts on features:

  1. I enabled one service (Amazon Prime), then went to the Discover page. In the section entitled “Trending On Your Services,” there are several titles that are not available via Amazon Prime.
  2. I will NOT accept the inability to disable Discover.
  3. I will NOT accept Search results showing results from streaming services that I have not enabled.
  4. I absolutely ABHOR HORIZONTAL SCROLLING. This should be no surprise to you, as I’ve complained about it before.

For everyone, including myself, that wants to leverage Trakt with Plex, please note the following below. Trakt specifically calls Plex out on this:

It is not as simple as all that as privacy policy prevents us from sharing your data which that would require. I’m not saying we will not some day offer a way to opt into something like that but I can’t make promises

It doesnt appear to me… I close the session, start the server, all and doesnt appear.

You’re looking at the wrong place. It’s not about restarting the server but using the newest client apps or hosted web app (not the server’s local IP).

I use Chrome and the Mac client and doesnt appear the new function.

The new features are client side. The Plex servers client web UI always lags behind and currently doesn’t have the new features, so ether use the app.plex.tv or use the most recent version of application, on an apple tv or android tv device.

I, too, am in the managed account camp. I only use the main (admin) account for management. I and the rest of my family all have their own managed accounts for regular usage.

I was super excited by the new service feature, thank you for making it possible!
Finally a place where we (are supposed to) find all our accessible movies/TV Shows fell our numerous streaming services.

How does geotagging/geofencing works in Europe for Discover?
I am in Luxembourg. Although it is a small country we do have Disney+ and Netflix but nothing shows on discover. Page is just blank.
Since the country is so small, most of us also have accounts from neighboring country (France, Belgium or Germany), while watching them from Luxembourg is allowed by EU travel viewing laws (it is forbidden to limit viewing for paid service from your home country while you travel anywhere in Europe).
Can you please lift geotagging/geofencing services to comply with EU law? Those services are already in charge of verifying if we comply to access them. Your way seems to be much too restrictive.
Thanks!

Thanks for the new feature, it seems great.
I would be even better if:

  • I can customize my Recommend Libraries with “Trending on your Service”, “Trending Trailers” and “Available From your Watchlist”, currently those 3 are only available in the “HOME”

  • Can we customize the “HOME”, I would like to for ex. remove the “Trending Trailers” from there, or just change the order from it.

  • When I select a movie/serie to watch that is in one of my streaming services (e.g. Amazon Premium), I can’t watch it directly from plex? When I press on the subscription it opens me a browser page (outside plex), to watch there. For now it seems that plex is just helping me find something to search and then forward me to the correct browser page to watch it.
Is there no means to watch it from inside plex? When today I read about it, I was super excited because I tought I could watch my amazon prime movies/series from within plex.

Thanks,

1: It’s been feedback often yeah, so likely Plex will listen.
2: That isn’t possible for now, as it’s dependant on 1st.
3: Correct, Plex simply forwards you to destination streaming provider. Only your PMS and Plex’s own content be played inside Plex. I don’t think this will change.

Thanks a lot. Now I can see it.

Beta or alpha?

#discover I tried your literal example… searched for “ryan reynolds” in my global search… and the results only displayed local media options… despite having just added a ryan reynolds movie to my watchlist and being able to click through to my netflix…

However searching for “The adam project” did work… alpha level

Newest version of client\server…

My friends and I were stuck in that Something went wrong page. It does seems to be related to location. Seems like plex pushed it without testing in other locations. I had to use vpn to change my location to germany, then the list of service appear, you have to add at least one service to your account, I added netflix. Then you can turn off vpn. Now plex will work in browser / app.

@BigWheel - I imagine this is not the first, nor will it be the last, time this topic comes up.

One final thought on the topic, and then I’ll drop it (for now) - To support Data Portability, is it not our choice, as the user, and owner of our own personal watch history, to be able to decide whether or not our data can be exported, or shared (or in this case, synced) with another party/service?

I realize that this may not be the time, or place, to have this conversation, but the rollout of this feature has definitely reignited it.

Thank you for taking the time to read my comments and for providing such a prompt reply. As a Plex Pass holder, I appreciate it.

Any eta on when we can see discover feature on apple tv app?
