From their blog announcement it’s free, so everyone can enjoy it. Just make sure all of your clients are up to date and you will see this new features eventually sooner or later.
That was exactly it; thank you for pointing out. After refreshing all metadata for Movies and TV Shows, I get the option to ‘Add to Watchlist’ on all content. Many thanks
I’m using it on Apple TV, love having a central app where I can see which movies/shows I can watch. I’m not sure what the limitations with the streaming services are, but these functionalities would be awesome:
Sync watched-status (or at least, import from streaming service).
Jump to specific episode from Plex to streaming service (or watch episode in Plex - one can only hope…).
Add shows I’m currently watching on streaming services to the watchlist in Plex.
Suggest shows and movies based on what I’ve watched on streaming services.
I am not seeing it either. Does this require the server version of Plex, or just the streaming device app? If the latter, what version of Plex is required, and does it require a Premium subscription? The announcement was very vague on these matters. I am at 7.28.1 and do not see an update waiting.
Yes, but it is not perfect. It finds shows that are not available on your services, and for some services (like Pramount+) it just takes you into the app, you have to navigate to the show itself. Then, if you use Peacock, when you exit the show it takes you back to the device Home Screen, not to JW.
Loving the beta of Discover so far.
Suggestion: Remove “Similar Titles in Free To Watch” in the details page if you don’t have those online sources enabled. Or provide an option to remove that item.
This has the potential to be amazing but a few things would be needed to make it something I will full-time utilise:
There just has to be a way to allow syncing of watched status and integration with continue watching. I get the privacy implications and it’s admirable that it is approached with privacy in mind but some sort of opt in maybe or trakt integration or something.
The discovery recommendations need to be better than what’s trending. I don’t want to be constantly suggested re-runs of Big Bang Theory, Friends and House. Some sort of like/dislike system and learning from inputs and what you watch.
Similar to the previous one, suggested shows to watch on another show’s page need to be better than what’s available for free on Plex Movies & TV. If I really like a show I want to see things closely related.
It’s a great start and I hope it really develops well. There is much potential but at the moment I feel like it falls short of everything it could be.
What is missing for me in this feature as well as in your on Demand Streaming is a language selection. While the on demand and this feature in theory are a good addition, the problem is it shows me a lot of movies, but most if not all are not available in the language my family speaks so there is no point in using those features as there is no option to set a language. Please give as a language selection to only display those languages on the Server per default, and what might be great is an option to add languages on a per account base
This new feature is a revelation. Implemented so well. One thing I hope you will consider is adding shortcuts support to the iOS and MacOS app so we can jump directly to the search screen as well as the discover tab using iOS Shortcuts. Allowing strings to be sent to Plex search from outside the app using Shortcuts will also be a welcome and smart addition.
With these new features I feel that Plex will even more so become the hub of our viewing habits, and small integrations within the OS will facilitate the ease of use to grow your usefulness.
Right now, the #watchlist does not remember the filters that were applied. I would like to keep the filter to display content available to stream instead of everything because a lot of content hasn’t been released yet.
Love the idea of going directly to separate apps and the Watchlist is pretty cool. Discover seems to work with some but not all third party apps on my AppleTV device but not at all with my Roku or LG TVs. When will you be adding support for more third party apps and devices?
Nice start but it needs a lot of improvements for local streaming services, the big US streamers seem ok
I checked on 3 shows i have watched in the last few days
2 of them ignore the main streaming service it is on (ITV Hub)
the other one links to a wrong show also on ITV Hub
Also needs an easy way to see what the next episode to watch is, i know it cant auto flag as watched, but can be done manually, so next episode can be shown (Ideally linked to Continue Watching)
Currently there is nothing in it to make me want to use this over JustWatch/Reelgood
And there lies one of the biggest problems with PLEX, you still have not enabled true server management that is stand alone nor can be accessed offline.
Also, if these new features are “Released” to the public, why do they show as BETA still? None of the articles I read stated that and just wasted a frustrating hour trying to figure out how to enable these new 'features" locally. The only way to enable these new features is by using app.plex.tv and not localhost:32400
