Find where to watch something with "Discover" and your "Watchlist"

Hello there! I am feeling kind of frustrated with this change and not being able to see how to disable it. I use my Plex exclusively for the purpose of watching content I have locally stored on my server. And yet, I am getting search results in the “More Ways To Watch” category on the Web, Apple TV, and iOS.

How do I disable the “More Ways To Watch”? I understand that there are some people who are interested in this kind of feature, but I am certainly not interested at all.

The ability to disable those results from searches is slowly rolling out to clients as we speak. Check the Announcements section of the Forum to see which clients have already have this option applied.

I guess my big concern is that these features were mass enabled without any options to disable them. What is the deal that this made it into production without any thought for use cases or users that do not want or care for this type of functionality?

Internal deadline that was contractually binding between X and Plex, that’s what. And our needs, or the act of stepping on our toes of how it would greatly impact our servers was, well, purely looking at what’s occurred already, was deliberately set aside and overlooked on purpose.

Forgot who exactly asked but I definitely agree, I’d like to know just about when this feature started to get talked about and when it possibly got started in the development pipeline. It’s wasn’t a beta, but a rather rushed feature that had absolutely no business taking over everything else when it could have been slowly developed overtime and unleashed later in the 3rd or 4th quarter of the year.

That is incredibly concerning. Like wow.

Any news on a fix for “No streaming services found for your region”.

Okay, so not just me. I haven’t seen an update, either.

Ooo – I’d love to know how you installed v9.0.4, too. So far I only have access to v8.3

Would love this feature if it would allow for way more customization.

  • I would like to be able to add (optional) the trailer section to my movies or series in the recommended section
  • Most of the content in discover is about streaming services not available in my country. would be good to be able to tweak which services can show up in the coming soon, etc sections on the discover page
  • Please allow tweaking on what services (if any) are included in search result. I’m getting way too many results (that I can’t play) if I’m searching for something in my lilbrary

thanks,
Patrick

I like where this is going. Having the option to select to Prioritize or Include In & to Hide from the trailers that play before a movie would be a great extra In My Opinion. Especially if your option to Include Cinema Trailers from movies in my library & Include Cinema Trailers from new and upcoming movies in theaters & Include Cinema Trailers from new and upcoming movies on Blu-ray had a Include Trailers from Streaming Partners & a Include Trailers for Items in my Watchlist or some wording depending on how they are setup, Ideally not just everything in the Watchlist, but a separate Family Watchlist or Shared Server Watch List, Though for it to be perfect It’d need a "Stream On Netflix" or "Stream on Disney+" end cap so users know which service the movies the trailer is for are on. This would probably serve a double benefit of making those unnamed contractual obligations happy too. So Win/Win

Just stopping in to say that I love this feature. Used it a lot already. It’s nice to have a quick place to see where a show can be streamed and/or purchased.

Next step: Stream the show directly through plex! If you can pull that off (which I get is more of a legal rather than technical hurdle) Plex would become the true hub you want it to be.

700 posts…
Im not reading through all of that before voicing my feedback on this new feature.

Loving the feature!
It has issues with some season matching between services, for example im using the tvdb sorting order for One Piece and it does not line up at all with the new discover feature!

I also own 608 movies on iTunes i would love to flag with this discover feature as owned on the specific feature.
This way such flagged content could be merged into a library of your choice, a new one just for that service or all services you “own” access too. Or to be able to merge it with an existing movie or tv library to make use of duplicate filtering and so on.

Pulling metadata of the service in question like Video res, HDR state, audio format and language would also be wanted here!

Options to browse the service as a whole with sorting orders and genders would also be great instead of relying on the small set of entries.

This feature is a great step in the right direction but i feel it got some more room to grow in the user experience of browsing.

Also not being able to see if you have access to a thing on a service when you view it in a local library is a huge oversight imo.

I haven’t seen the guide here but these are ways I am aware of and recommend the first method as it’s easy:

Downloader Method (easy recommended):

  • Search for “Downloader” app on your FireTV and install it.
  • Go to Settings > My Fire TV > Developer Options > Install Unknown Apps > Open “Downloader” and turn it ON
  • Install Amazon Fire TV app on your Android Phone
  • Copy the download link from this page (Amazon Fire OS Devices): Plex for Android
  • Open Downloader app installed above and paste the url using Fire TV remote app which also downloaded above.
  • Once the file is downloaded you will see Install option… and you’re done.

Alternative Method (hit and miss):

  • Install Apps2Fire on your Phone
  • Setup Apps2Fire with your Fire TV and it should be connected.
  • Once the app and Fire TV are in sync you can install APKs from your phone storage or apps installed on your phone.

USB Method:

  • Make sure you have OTG Cable connected to your Fire TV.
  • Download the .APK from Plex for Android page and save it on your USB drive.
  • Have a file manager installed on your Fire TV, say ES File Explorer.
  • Plug the USB drive to OTG Cable > Open File Manager and install the .APK file locating on your USB drive.

Loving the feature and love to see how it goes. Would it be possible for the owner/admin of the plex server see the watchlists or users having an option to send recommendations to the admin to add to the server. I think that would be a great feature

Looks promising, is there a link to a list of platforms are in-scope for direct linking to the streaming service? Both Plex in browser and Android/Google TV find the TV programme (Tested with Moon Knight) and tell me which services to find it (Disney / Virgin TV Go). On browser Plex takes me to the service/programme when clicked., however the Android/Google TV app errors out even if I have the app i.e. Disney + installed.

Awesome!! Thank you!

Hello, I have not receive any updates on this matter. However I manage to activate it on my Plex Account. The new issue is that Discover does not allows me to select the streaming accounts I would like to add. Its says that is not supported on my region. That is odd since we do have all the streaming services as an US region. My server says that my region is US too. So am I doing something wrong?

This has to already been said so sorry if it’s yet another repeat. I absolutely love the beta watch later/discovery feature but now after having a new release… release, I noticed one major flaw. I think it would be great to have some sort of notification or initial login splash screen… something, to let you know that a unreleased movie you added to your watch later was released.

I agree but ONLY if we have the option to turn that on or off. I can see that getting annoying, especially if you don’t use it, or if you use it too much

The service is broken and we didn’t ask for it, yet you ignore features that we’ve requested for years.
At least make it work before you force it upon us.
