Find where to watch something with "Discover" and your "Watchlist"

Just got the email talking about this but can’t see the relevant elements is there something you need to do to activate it??

Eventually found the instruction to go to https://app.plex.tv/ and then it all started to make sense and work.

If apps like the LG app supported multiple users, my family members would have their own accounts too. But going through a complete login process every time is not an option. That’s why we use the managed accounts. Or am I missing something?

When using every other streaming service I have, Netflix, Prime, HBO + more, there is one login and different users within have their own profile. I use Plex in the same way.

If your spouse leaves town on a trip or college age person who leaves for school for a semester, and for some unknown reason they need to sign out. they would not be able to sign back in unless you are around to enter in your credentials

If you have Plex Pass you can add regular accounts to a PLex Home as well and they will show up in the user picker

@BigWheel Oh, all right, the feature passed me by. Can I migrate a managed account with a single account? Wouldn’t want to lose the Watch States in that account.

Thanks!

After further testing, here are more details if it can be useful to the team.

It seems the issue is triggered after saving services in a second region.

For example (I tested this with a VPN):

  1. Be in the US.
  2. Select Netflix, Hulu and HBO Max. Save.
  3. Go to Canada.
  4. Netflix is already selected (but not the other two as they aren’t available in Canada). Select Crave and Crave Starz. Save.
  5. Go back to the US.
→ Only Netflix is selected. Hulu and HBO Max have been deselected, probably because they aren’t available in both Canada and the US. I would have expected to see them back.

Guys if you have Hulu as one of your service are you able to initiate playback from a selected episode in Plex? Mines says “playback unavailable”?

Me (server owner), the girlfriend (does not live with me) and Daughter (lives in another city) all have individual accounts. We also find ourselves inside the same household very often, but would still like to use our own accounts to access our own watch histories and such.

Solution: I’ve added them all to the Plex Home screen which allows for user selection.

Unfortunately not yet. That is something I have been pushing for though. especially for the common case of Kid grows up and needs their own account when they move scenario

when selecting another service it tries to open that services app on your platform. You would need Hulu installed.

sure, but if one’s spouse or parent, not tech-savvy at all, is logged out, they will have a much harder time figuring out which email & passwords they used than telling the server owner : please log me back in. Managed accounts are used for people in our household that we want to 100% manage, so it’s only natural they will access all the features we pay for, right ?

Now maybe some have abused this to avoid paying multiple Plex pass, but for me it’s not a matter (I wouldn’t mind paying again for Plex), it’s coherence.

I’ve moved some user once from single accounts to manage accounts, and as there is no way of doing that nicely (not losing history and so on), would like to avoid doing it again the other way !

@BigWheel Ok, thank you very much. I don’t think I need to ask about the priority on the roadmap for Plex. But will this still be something this year? The feature would be great.

well sure but if they are not currently at the same location with you then you will need to walk them though something, either entering in your credentials which you should never give out or their own. I made a real account for my parents and if they have issues I don’t have them log in as me.

Explains a lot, i used to use JustWatch, the adds and the sponsored content, always trying to get me to stream from Fubo or something was a pain. I am sure Plex will go down that route eventually. The same goes for Google TV. Apple TV has one of the most painless watch management systems.

Sorry I have no idea what the timeline would be or if it even gets done. I don’t want to give you false hope about it.

but they are in the same location, hence why I consider them the same household. With my partner, it’s even the same tv, should we log out / log in every time it’s one or the other using the app ? Or she should switch to my account just to enjoy this feature ?

And at worst, yes, if it was easy to move from managed account to single account, and pay again, fair enough. But it’s not and she would lose all her history.

Those are pretty understandable scenarios where having separate credentials would come in handy. But that would also mean that each family member would either need a Plex Pass of their own (or at least cough out the $5 device fees) in order to use the same features they would get for free as managed users. Again, not the most sensible use of one’s Plex Pass.

And like I said, not even all Plex Pass owners use the main account for other than maintaining the server. Could you please incorporate an option to turn on Discover for managed users? It’s a great addition that is otherwise seriously going to waste.

you can invite a regular full account into your Plex home. Plex home is not limited to the Home Admin and Managed accounts.

everyone in a Plex Home gets to use the mobile apps for free if the Home Admin has a Plex Pass
