Fire Stick no longer playing videos from my server

Server Version#:1.18.6.2350
Player Version#:8.18.2.25850
I have two smart TVs and two Fire Sticks running Plex, connected to my WD My Cloud Home NAS. Up until a week ago, they all worked fine. Then the Fire Sticks stopped working. When ever I try to play a video, I get the messge “An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again.” Everything I have tried fails. While looking at the XML from a Plex-Token, I noticed that the two Fire Sticks are using port 32500, while all other devices (server, web player, smart TVs) are all using 32400. I don’t know if this is related. Has anyone seen this or found a fix for it?

I believe your problem is related to this

pretty sure it’s a different issue.

Do you have a theory as to what this issue is?

Yeah, sorry.
I missed where you had a WD NAS which that thread references, though it might be a different issue.

I have the same problem with my firesticks but I run PMS on a Windows server.
I also have Plex running on a hosted server in Linux that the firestick plays fine, so no clue what’s going on.
It’s odd that the firestick is looking at the wrong port. Have you tried changing the listening port on PMS to see if it starts playing?

Yes, I tried changing that. Nothing changes.

Same problem here. Suddenly, 2 Firesticks, same Error message

Try updating to PMS 1.23.3.4707

They can’t manually update Plex, they rely on what’s available on their app store, which is an over-a-year old version

The WD system doesn’t have a way to update it manually then?

Not for the model he has. I have a wd that allows me to do that

I am on Plex server version 1.23.3.4707 and I am no longer able to play videos on my FireStick
I get the message An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again
I have deleted and reinstalled and still get the same message
I also have a Plex Smart TV app and Chromecast and they are fine
Does anyone have a solution for this?

I have managed to fix my issue
If you are getting the same error as me I would suggest before you try any fixes you may find on any forums I would advise you to manually download and install the latest server version from Media Server Downloads | Plex Media Server for Windows, Mac, Linux, FreeBSD and More even if your status is showing up to date
My server said it was up-to-date with the latest version
However I am pretty sure it was not installed properly
When I downloaded and installed the same version it solved my issue

I am having the exact same issue. It stopped working on my Firesticks, it works on my iPhone and computer. It’s been like this for three weeks. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled. I’ve restarted my Netgear Nighthawk router. I’m able to watch Live TV and listen to music, but it refuses to play my library.

My issue turned out to be nothing related to my FireStick
It was the server version on my PC
Even though it worked on my phone and TV app
It did not work on my FireStick
Did you manually install the latest Plex server version from their website onto your PC/Mac?

+1

Server: 1.23.3.4707
Firestick: 8.18

Random videos WILL play on BOTH PC browser and SILK browser on firestick.
Will not play on fire stick.

This seems to happen every time plex is updated, and now that I don’t have the option to disable the “new” player, it seems hopeless.
