On the streaming device, I don’t have a fire stick to test with, but since it resolved on CCwGTV and phone, I’m assuming it’s an issue with all android variants.
I just left pre-roll on, but turned off previews both server-side and client side, and pre-roll is successfully running now.
I have also verified that pre-rolls are causing this issue on my firesticks. I have multiple different ones and it causes it on all of them. Disabling my pre-rolls fixes the issue. Sounds like a bug to me!
same problem for me , on my firestick and on one of my chromecast google tv !
@tom80H Can you confirm plex devs are aware of this issue and its been looked into?
Fire TV Plex version 8.29.0.30433
Changing the Cinema trailers to play 1 instead of 0 worked for me.
Bumping - any update here?
Getting the same error with my Shield plex app as well. Shield plex app version is 8.29.1.30697 and my server is version 1.25.5.5492.
I had to remove the prerolls from the “Extras” on the server for movies to play. Haven’t tried any of the other workarounds.
Bumping the thread, still not working for me.
Even after the newest update [ 1.25.5.5492], it’s still an issue with the Fire-TV stick.
Humpty bumpty, still not working for me.
No updates on fixes for this yet? I still have Pre-Rolls turned off because of Fire users. Chance this will be sorted out on Plex’s end or is it something wrong with Fire TV / FireSticks?
Same issue here on FireTV, but interestingly, I have a TV episode that I can make it happen on every time. The episode happens to be half watched, and no matter where you set it to played or unplayed, it does not get applied. Even doing this in the browser does not work. On FireTV I cannot move off this episode to another one, crashes every time.
I’m now on the latest version of plex (1.25.6.5577) with the same issue. Not sure it’s related. Right now FireTV can be un-usable.
I have not found a workaround that works for mine.
That sounds like a corrupted file, not the same issue as we are having. This issue is you start the movie, and it crashes instantly. Turning off the pre-rolls fixes the issue, but we like our pre-rolls.
No, it’s not a corrupted file. I can go to another Firestick and it plays. Sometimes it crashes right away, but other times it takes a few seconds. In my case it’s more often TV Shows than Movies. Maybe your case (and others) it’s just the pre-rolls, but sounds like that’s not the case for everyone. It seems like the plex app has gotten buggy or there something screwy with the Firestick(s).
If my issue is completely different I will refrain from posting in this thread any further.
Thanks.
I certainly cannot speak to saying it is not related, but in our case something is occurring when the pre-rolls play(or right after in the transition) that is causing our crashes. The crashes occur on all our firesticks (or affected devices) not just a single one.
Hearing more on yours I would offer some basic steps to try, trying to see if there is perhaps corruption on that firestick itself in some way, or a change that “made itself (as we have all had happen for whatever reason)” that is causing it. I would try to clear the cache in plex on that firestick, if that does not work a full uninstall and re-install of the plex app to clear all settings and go back to defaults. If that still does not work it is possible there is some error on the firestick in what compatibility on files it offers that it should have but for some weird reason got messed up, and factory reset your firestick (which no one likes to do.) I don’t THINK your issue is the same as ours, but I got no problems trying to help you with it if I can!
Oh, another thought too, see if you get better results FORCING it to transcode (like set it to 2meg or something) and see if it still crashes too.
Hey. I appreciate the help. My usual course of action is to Force Stop, clear Cache, then rerun Plex. Sometimes I restart the Firestick before rerunning Plex. Unfortunately neither of these is a 100% fix, but more often than not it does work.
I’ve also removed and re-added the Plex app.
I think I’m at the point of resetting the Firestick, but like you said, nobody wants to do that including me, so it hasn’t happened yet!
Thanks!
The next step is to log dive…
Anyone test since then? I have been on travel and have not been able to test.
So I added back pre-rolls last night, and will report back if I see the issue still occurring.
