So far so good. I am on travel so have not been able to watch a lot, but I did go into one of my libraries and started like 7 movie and the pre-rolls worked.
Now that said, I think I found an error. If you go into a library, and just hit shuffle, NO pre-rolls play at all.
I’ve had to stop using my FireStick, altogether. Also, had to tell 6 other people to get another device, and I’m telling anyone else to not get a FireStick, due to this issue. And the problem is NOT the FireStick. It is a Plex issue, where one of their updates broke the app’s functionality. Hopefully, you’re able to test it and see that it is working completely. After, 4 months without a patch or response for an issue that someone broke in the code trying to add or fix something else…it’s just way too long.
I had better luck, had mine up for like 3 days before I ran into the issue again… but after I saw it once, it happened 4 more times in a row then I had to remove pre-rolls again. I really like my pre-rolls, so I hope this actually gets attention sometime.
@ChuckPa you are usually ultra super knowledgeable on all things Plex, got any feedback for this? It has been an issue that has been around now since at least 1.25.3. Seems like the movie and pre-roll try to transcode/play at the same time(ish) which ends on the movie not playing at all after the pre-roll and just going back to menu. Especially on firestck, this means people cannot play movies at all if you have pre-rolls on. It does not happen with all movies, making it that much harder to keep track of.
Yeah, I really like my firesticks. I can sideload any android apps in it so I can do all kinds of fun stuff… but really Plex is my main usage, plex and youtube. But if Plex does not work correctly… I would 2000% prefer Plex got FIXED mind you.
So I am not seeing anyone at Plex commenting on this thread, I have called a person or two and we just do not seem to be getting any attention. This is a MAJOR platform issue if you have pre-rolls turned on, it causes plex to not play media. You would think this would get a little more attention, this is a flat out major bug.
Agreed. Even with the updates, this still is not working. Every time I check and enable the Pre-Rolls, it gets stuck. No issue on TV shows. Pre-Rolls MUST be disabled for all users on the PMS in order for the FireStick to work. Is Plex somehow angry with Amazon?
The LG TV client got fixed SUPER fast, this has been an issue since Dec of last year. @BigWheel can we get conformation this is on Plex’s radar to fix?
The LG app is a completely different client and if you are referring to a recent fix with that it had to do with how those Smart TV apps load. Which was a back end caching issue not an issue with the app itself. It works nothing like the Android app
As far as issue related to preroll there was another issue that was recently thought to be fixed in general with Android TV (not Fire TV devices specifically) as some folks said preroll was working but just yesterday another person told me they were still having issues with 9.5 and I reopened that bug report which from what I saw was related to a bug on how it builds a playqueue that includes the preroll
Well, it is pretty easy to reproduce. Enable pre-rolls… then on a firestick try and play a movie. I find a FEW movies that somehow will work…ish… but mostly they just try to play the pre-roll then looks like it breaks. Almost like it goes to play the movie, pre-roll kicks off in the middle of starting the movie, then pre-roll plays and then plex has no clue what to do anymore.
