Noticeable improvements in the last few months. [Fire TV 4K and Fire TV Cube]
A few months ago I subscribed to YouTube TV, because of the issues I’ve had with Plex live TV. It’s been tough to get the family to use Plex for TV, since they have lost confidence in it and gotten use to a different provider.
I’ve been installing the beta’s for the past few weeks, and I’d just like to say that Plex is becoming a lot more usable for live TV. Also, there have been some server updates that appeared to improve the DVR recording stability.
I am encouraged by the updates to live TV and the DVR. I will continue to install patches and try to test more. I’d like to see some improvements in the Fire TV Plex client, which has fewer features than the other clients I have tried. (like linking cast members to other content)
I’m seeing similar performance. I’m baffled as to how because my server was on the previous release as of 4/9/2021 and I’m not running the beta client. I now have a mix of firesticks with the new and old interface with good results.
A family member brought it to my attention that it was working last Friday. I’ve been testing it daily for an hour or so on different firesticks around the house, on local and remote servers, and have yet to see the looping happen. I have upgraded my servers to the latest release and it’s still looking good.
Changing channels is still a problem.
I typically change channels during live play-back by arrowing up to bring up the guide, select channel, and an error window pops-up. I have to click OK to clear it, and the cursor ends up on the search icon (magnifying glass). I have to arrow down, click the channel again, and it works fine.
Rolling back versions to 8.5.2.20133 as stated months ago, is still the only fix for this android tv client issue for Live TV & DVR.
Issues with the new player make using Plex a hassle and chore.
I’m willing to give logs, but these were already provided, along with video proof of whats happening. But no acknowledgement that this is being investigated.
We just want to run the latest client versions without issues.
Version 8.16.1.24597 fixes the original issue for me where the video for Live TV just stops or starts stuttering after five minutes. I guess time will tell if there are any other issues.
For a while there was a plex employee looking into this. Not the case anymore? Still happens with my Google Chromecast with Google TV as well as a 4K Firestick.
Running the latest PMS on Windows, 1.23.1.4528, up to date Plex on Google Play/Amazon App Store, and using the latest firmware for my HD Homerun Extend. This is how it behaves today when trying to watch a currently recording program on my Google TV.
Same behavior on my Firestick.
Essentially if you tell it to watch from the beginning it just just repeats the first few seconds. You can watch live, wait 10 seconds for the time shifting to load, and then watch from start.
This is pretty ridiculous! Been an issue for months now. Not the biggest deal to watch live and go back but extremely frustrating to watch live and spoil a show or sports score as I’m waiting to go back to beginning!
I’m running PMS Version 1.22.3.4523, which when I check for updates says it’s “Up to date”
My firestick is running “kepler-armv7a-amazon-stdExo-8.18.0.25332-6ca94589”
I have the same looping behavior when I “start from the beginning” of something that is currently recording. The playback gets stuck in a 4-8 second loop.
Any update to this issue? Worst part is trying to watch a sports broadcast after it’s started recording and you have to start it “live” and then hit the go to beginning once it loads up. Ended up ruining the score of the game multiple times.
