Fire TV not auto playing next episode

I’m using fire TV app and when a TV show ends the next episode count down happens then when it hits zero nothing happens the screen stays black, and doesn’t switch episodes. Web player and all other android apps work. I’ve uninstalled and cleared cache and deleted data and hasn’t fixed anything.

Would anyone have any ideas what’s going o.

I second this, it’s so annoying, it’s been an issue for all fire stick users for over 5 days now…
Auto play, countdown to not, does not function at all, you have to exit the episode and navigate the next, and that only work half the time. The only reliable method is to exit the show and go back
Like this is ridiculous

This has also been happening to me. Android Fire TV only - Not happening on other applications.

Just to circumvent an mod gaslighting or time wasting, please refer to these forums on Reddit for clear proof this is a dev issue:

I have the same issue, auto plays a black screen after countdown is complete (instead of the next episode).

Thank you for staying on top of this. Really hope this gets looked at soon.

Same here. Been trying everything I could think of. Different profiles, updating the server to an experimental version, downgrading, clearing fire tv cache, resetting fire tv to factory settings, changing all kinds of server and client settings. The only thing I haven’t tried is sideloading an older apk to try and get an older version of the client on the fire tv. Wish Plex would just let us know they were working on it.

The only way to get them to care is to make the noise we’re making here.
They used to be transparent but are slowly turning corporate

Same issues here. Just noticed it a couple days ago on my fire stick. Seems to only affect the fire stick.

Yep, black screen after auto play countdown. Reinstalled Plex on the Firestick and the server on my iMac. Episodes play perfectly fine when I manually select next episode so it’s not a connection issue.

Same for me, autoplay feature stopped working on my Fire tv Cube :frowning:

Same exact issue here on a Fire 4k Max. I’ve checked all the settings, restarted the entire fire stick, not just the app. No dice. Won’t proceed to the next episode, just goes to a black screen and the UI shows it is still on the episode I just finished and it’s at the end.

I can hit the back button which will simply bring up the next episode prompt again, clicking through does nothing but close the prompt. I have to back out to episode selection and choose the proper episode from there. It’s doing this for multiple shows, and all have worked fine when used on my Web Player.

The episodes will play fine when triggered from the menus, but not when continuing to another episode.

@mods???

I have the same issue. It has been an issue for longer than the past few days for me. It would occur randomly on one of our fire tv’s that’s playing almost continually. On the other it worked fine until a few days ago, however this is a fire tv max and natively playing my AV1 library, the first one uses transcoding so I origninally thought it was that. It’s clearly not though.

I hate to say it being a plex pass lifetime member but I am strongly considering THE alternative that probably shall not be named on this forum.

I agree, they don’t reply, when they do, they’re rude, u helpful and slow.
What’s the point of these forums if there’s no help, how can such a basic feature not be a property or acknowledged for a week, it’s pathetic

To add to my previous post. This is a critical feature for my and many households. Being able to put cartoons on for the kids and have it keep playing is very important.

Plex PLEASE acknoledge this issue. Most of us here in the forum pay good money to use Plex and all it’s features. As a developer myself I don’t understand how updates like these (Either the server or Fire TV client) can pass quality control testing without this being noticed.

WORKAROUND FOUND
So I finally found a relatively simple workaround, so long as you are familiar with sideloading apps. If not I will try and summarize.

Download the previous version of the Plex for Fire OS apk from here:
Plex for Android - #525 by PlexAndroidReleaser (Both Fire OS and Appstore apks are the same)
Direct link: https://downloads.plex.tv/Kepler/kepler-armeabi-v7a-amazon-10.26.0.2578-6cc7ea1a.apk
Uninstall the existing Plex version from the Fire TV device.
Under Settings → Applications → Turn Off Automatic Updates

Now for the sideloading:
Go to Settings → My Fire TV → Developer → Turn ADB debuggin ON (can turn off after the install)
Now if you are familiar with command line ADB you know what to do. If not then I recommend the following Android app to do the sideloading for you:

At this point Tap the connect icon in the top right, select your Fire TV, click Allow on the popup on the Fire TV itself and finally go to the Custom Apk tab in the app and select the file downloaded above.
I really hope this helps other people, it’s no where near a fix but if you, like I need the continuous play function this is how to get it back for now.

If the version I linked doesnt seem to work for your Fire OS device, try going back an update further with the following link, or find a version that works for you in the thread linked above.
Jan 6th Version: https://downloads.plex.tv/Kepler/kepler-armeabi-v7a-amazon-10.25.0.2457-6d4c0187.apk

I am having the same problem. I hope Plex is working on a solution.
