Autoplay with new player is freezing immediately after it moves on to each new episode. Have tested multiple Shield TVs and multiple shows. Happens every episode with every show. Tautulli shows the autoplayed video is transcoding but copying the video and audio. If I stop the video and play manually it will go back to direct play, which is always what I expect as I never need transcoding (having 3 shields).
It’s something the android team is aware of and looking into.
I see the app was updated two days ago, but now there is a new problem. The next video starts and you can only hear the sound. The screen stays at the next up/autoplay screen. Is this already known?

Now with 8.4.1 its still the same, if you dont exit immediately after an Episode is done, Plex will continue Playing the Audio and mark the Episodes as Watched.
still an issue on 8.4.2. Even when Autoplay is turned off! Makes Plex almost useless on my Shield! This has been a recurring issue for at least a year on Android - it comes and goes with updates. Very frustrating
They constantly tell you to use the New Player but in my case the only thing that fixed this issue for me was turning the New Player off and using the old. Am on a Fire STick 4K but having the exact same issue. Obviously an Android TV issue
Vote here for a new player for fire tv, the new player does not function on fire tv, and the old player is slow. Hopefully plex will listen to its customers and fix the issue.
Easy fix;
Plex needs to update the antiquated exoplayer version they are using to the latest version or better yet swap it to something much better!
This bug has been going on for so long and I can’t believe it hasn’t been resolved yet.
October 29th, issue still ongoing. Have a 4K Fire Stick and 4K Fire TV, happens on both. Are Plex ever planning to fix this?
I can confirm this issue for multiple months now on all my Android Devices (Shield, Smartphone, Tablet). Audio starts playing immediately when the next episode starts but the image is stuck for about 10 seconds before the episodes plays normal. During this time the image shown is a still picture of the video at the mark when the video finally starts rolling.
As a temporary workaround I have to rewind the current episode immediatly after playing it. That makes the episode playing normally from the start. This happens across all my shows and on every episode. I only happens when switiching from one episode to another without leaving the player.
same thing here;
sony x900h android tv, everytime episode ends and autoplay starts new episode or if i manually press next button, first frame freezes and sound keeps playing. if i fast forward or backward it starts playing normally.
Happening for me as well running on a Nvidia Shield. The issue has been present for a couple of months now. Hopefully an update gets pushed out soon!
its realy weird that this problem exists since july 2020 and nobody from plex cares. HEY PLEASE!!!
in addition to that problem;
if you pause a movie or tvshow and the android screensaver starts after a while, when you press resume same thing happens and it freezes.
Same problems still exists. However i discovered new bugs, suddenly subtitles disappears. And sometimes subtitles appears with wrong sync. Closing and reopening the movie solves that. There is so many bugs with android tv. Before android i was using a tizen samsung and plex was great with no bugs.
I’m having a similar/related issue on TCL Android TV. Approx. half of the time the next episode will play automatically. The rest of the time it will freeze on the last frame of the just played episode (if left, eventually it will time out and show an error that the item cannot be played).
No such problem on my other devices (ios/android apps, or the old LG webos app).
Same here with fire stick 4k, latest beta app. sometimes works fine, sometimes will transcode, freeze or the next ep audio will play while still on post-play.
This is just normal 1080p/h264/ac3 5.1/srt/mkv
Same here. First episode will Direct play and next episode will transcode on autoplay. Going back to info screen and playing the episode will direct play.
