Fire TV not auto playing next episode

Same issue. Was working before vacation 10 days ago and now it just freezes on last frame of the episode currently playing. Backing out, it will show the countdown on the previous screen, but never opens the file. I just found Plex and was contemplating getting a plex pass, but 5 days unsolved on a known huge issue seems like I might explore other options before committing. Is it normal?

Actually, looking into the release notes for version 10.27.0

Casting related fixes for Amazon Fire devices.

So something changed specifically for fire tv devices.

Agreed it is definatley an issue with 10.27.0, I didn’t see anything specific relating to this in the changelog, however I may have missed something. I can confirm this is the problem version. I mentioned above it works with 10.26.0 and no black screen issue or playback issues so it must be the update.
Given what you found about 10.27.0 not in the playstore perhaps thats where the difference between the Google TV devices and the Fire TV devices.

Maybe they will care more when more users are impacted

I’ve given up on any help from Plex… they do as they wish…
The firestick has been nothing but issue after issue, so many navagation dead ends, Playing anything takes 4 or 5 clicks and most of the time does not work the first time. I have gotten really good at rebooting the firestick, That seems to help clear some of the issues some of the time. Search, just wont go there…

As of one hour ago, there is a new update that states it has been addressed: Plex for Android - #527 by PlexAndroidReleaser

My tv didn’t say I had an update available - so I uninstalled and reinstalled - and the update was picked up.

I skipped to the end of an episode and it correctly went to the next one. So there is a fix out there, it might take some time to make it to your device. Try reinstalling!

Same issue as others, every Fire Stick does it, works on iOS. They know they have a ton of Fire Stick customers, how can this company continue to just flat out fail on QA. It’s 2025, automated testing IS NOT that hard. Engineer at a SaaS company, I know how that works but then we care about customers.

I’m getting really, really (really) tired of their crap, someone bring something else to market, I’ll pay for it. Correction, remove “getting”, I AM tired of it.

Can confirm this fixes the problem. Given the “staged roll-out” and that I am in Canada the AppStore doesn’t have the correct version but after side-loading it works perfectly.

Also Canadian (East Coast) - Glad you got it up and running. Happy watching everyone :canada:

There is no need to turn on ADB debugging or even using another device for this. You only need one app, which is available on the Amazon FireOS store.

You will need to enable install of software from other sources (frequently called “jailbreaking” even though it is a normal option on any Android phone.) That is the “install unknown apps” option in the Developer Settings. ADB is not needed.

After you uninstall the current Plex app, simply use the web browser built into the Downloader app to go to the Plex forum thread where downloads of previous Android versions are made available. Download and it will prompt you to install it. The End.

You may want to just save the forum thread to the Favorites (bookmarks) on the browser.

Bonus: The web browser on the Downloader app can be used to access speed tests.

Please see my last message. This issue is resolved with the latest update from Plex to 10.27.1 the link was provided by @pyro_699, Thanks for the keen eye on the updates.

The roll out of the fix is staggered as they mention in the ‘Plex for Android Announcements’ so if it’s not in the AppStore it will be soon. Until then the following version is the fixed and the most recent release specifically for the Fire TV issue.
https://downloads.plex.tv/Kepler/kepler-armeabi-v7a-amazon-10.27.1.2743-3ca2c244.apk
I don’t know if I’m supposed to direct link these files so Plex staff let me know and I will just link the thread.
Please understand I have nothing against your method, I’m just making sure one uses the latest version if possible.
I’ll be signing off this thread for now unless I find further issues.

It’s fine. Generally if you want to link the most recent post in a thread just replace the post number with last at the end

https://forums.plex.tv/t/plex-for-android/29115/527 will go to post 527

https://forums.plex.tv/t/plex-for-android/29115/last will always go to the most recent post in topic

Unfortunatley the issue remains but to a lesser degree. It works fine playing natively but when playing through transcoding it will stop with the black screen again. If I revert back to the January update of the Plex app it seems to work fine.
This issue was plaguing me before this more major issue occurred so I don’t know how related they are.

@g1g2chloe can you grab you android tv logs after it happens. one of our devs said he could not reproduce while transcoding

This issue is still broken on a lot of apps, push the update
