Firestick 4K issues with PCM & Atmos

I have a Firestick 4K directly attached to a Panasonic Plasma TV (TC50PS64). Currently, I’m experiencing the following two issues when trying to play remuxed blu-rays on via the native Plex client:

  1. Playing MKV’s with PCM audio track results in distorted sound and choppy video
  2. Playing MKV’s with Dolby Atmos tracks results in the following message - “An error occurred while trying to play this video. Please check your connection and try again.”

My HDMI passthrough setting is disabled and here are the full results in Tautulli from playing various audio codecs:

  • DTS-HD 5.1 - Direct Play (DCA-MA 5.1)
  • DTS-HD MA 7.1 - Direct Play (DCA-MA 7.1)
  • TrueHD 7.1 - Transcode (TrueHD 7.1 -> EAC3 7.1)
  • Atmos 7.1 - Error message - “An error occurred while trying to play this video. Please check your connection and try again.”
  • PCM 5.1 - Static sound and choppy video

As seen above, the first three play without any issues while the PCM and Atmos tracks fail. Interestingly, if I play those same two codecs using the Kodi Plex client, they play without any issue.

Any ideas on how I can get those two codecs (PCM and Atmos) to work on the native Plex client with this TV?

I’m facing the same issue, changing audio source to 5.1 as soon as you start playing, plays the video successfully (fyi).
I’ve been looking into this and it also seems to have no effect limiting plex to 5.1, it’ll still use Atmos 7.1 unless manually switched and having saved the playback settings.
Also, switching to the old video player (turning off the new one) plays some of the videos without a change as well.
I have not had time to dig deeper into this so any findings would be great as well.

I’m running Plex server on an Intel Compute Stick Windows 10, 8TB hard drive through USB and streaming to a Fire Stick 4K in case you have something similar.
