I’m using my FireStick 4K. In home network shows a wide range of quality options. However, if remoting, I only show as high as 720p. If I choose “Maximum” playback freezes. It’s like it can’t go beyond 720p. The server is set to limit at 1080p 20mbps.
What is the bitrate and resolution of the original? The options are only shown upto the original. Plex does not upscale so there i no point in showing higher options.
I’m not sure how to download a log file for the Firestick.
I notice that it shows that there is a transcode. The reason is that “Resolution or bitrate exceeds maximum allowed.” Is that on the Firestick side? Because my server allows 1080 12mbps streaming over Internet.
It looks like you have the option enabled in the app to automatically adjust the bitrate to fit your current speed. The app calculates how fast each portion of the video is received. The stream started at 4 Mbps, which is the setting on the app. The speed was found to be around 5.8 Mbps. After it started playing for about a second, the calculated speed dropped to ~1 Mbps. So it lowered the quality to 720 kbps to fit. The speed keeps fluctuating between 1 Mbps and 8 Mbps but not stable enough at the higher values for the server to increase the quality.
Turn off that option then set the quality you want and see if you get buffering. if you do, then the app is correctly lowering the quality. If it plays fine, there may be a bug with the calculations.
So, follow-up question. On the server, there is a section for “Plex Web”. What do these settings affect? All users coming in to Plex through their devices such as computer, phone, Fire TV, Roku, etc?
