Got the Fire TV Stick 4K 2nd gen on the latest software. Since the new experience update hit, the Plex app has been a write-off on this device.
Right now I can’t even get past the login/user screen. The remote does nothing half the time and the whole thing freezes. I’ve already done the usual – force stop, clear cache, uninstall, reinstall, full reboots. Nothing works. Other clients are fine so it’s not the server.
This started for me about two weeks ago, but looking around the forums it’s clear the same problems have been around much longer. The new Fire TV experience was announced at the end of March and started rolling out in April. By June there were already loads of threads about freezes, laggy navigation, getting stuck in menus and having to reboot just to use the app. Plenty of people ended up sideloading the old version because the new one was basically unusable.
I’m not doing that. If the official client doesn’t work then that’s on them.
What’s more annoying is they’ve already started walking it back on other platforms. They’ve put the left-side navigation back in preview on Apple TV, Roku and Android TV after all the complaints. Fire TV is still stuck with the broken version and no proper fix in sight.
Anyone else still completely locked out on a 4K 2nd gen stick, or has anyone actually got a straight answer out of Plex about when this is getting sorted?
