FireTV 4k: No Blueray Playback anymore?

Hi,
Setup: FireTV4k --> Synology NAS 218Plus

No idea what happened, but I am struggeling with problems on my FireTV 4k since some days. Even movies we watched some days ago do not work anymore. When I start them it takes some seconds but then I am thrown back to the FireTV 4k start-screen. This happens on all movies and as I said, they were working fine some days ago.

I rebooted the entire system several times. The bandwith is fine, since I am still watching 4k on Netflix, Prime etc. without any issues. And as I already said, there’s no bueffering or something like that, there’s a freeze for some seconds and then it crashes.

Any idea?

OK. I rebooted the entire network, including router, NAS etc. Re-connected Plex on the FireTV Stick.
The problem is still there.
And to point that out clearly:

  • ALL movies are affected, I am always kicked out of Plex, back to the FireTV / Prime startscreen
  • Even “smaller” media like SD series do not work, so it is not a bandwith issue
  • All of these movies were working well some days ago, so it’s not the file / media / format
  • Netflix, Prime works fine, even at 4k so no bandwith thing

Attached you’ll find the logs you asked for, hopefully they help usplex.zip (7.0 MB)

I think we can skip these network error entries last night (Sep. 11, 23:xx:xx)
For some reasons the connection to the FireTV 4k was down for a while but that’s fixed.
The Plex issue was there before and afterwards too.

I thought we should have a “clean” way to investigate, so I tried to start the affected movies right before I posted these logs. And again I was kicked back to the start screen each time again and again.
So I think we should look on a timframe of… let’s say not more than 30min or 1h before I posted my logs.
Or Plan B: Can I clear the log, provoke the issue and load it up again?

Regarding your second question: Playing media om Win10 / Firefox is still working. But this is only a help to trace back the issue, this is not an alternative. If I would want to look these movies in my home-office on the PC I wouldn’t need Plex
So in my opinion the FireTV app is bugged or the collaboration btw. server and the FireTV app?

Yes and that’s strange IMO.
As I said, I wanted to provide a “brandnew” issue, so I started several movies several times right before I posted the logs, so there should be tons of entries since I was kicked to the startscreen again and again. The timeframe should be round about Sept. 12, 11:xx:xx

But there’s nothing…
So just as an idea: This log is reflecting the server on my NAS, only.
But I am kicked out of Plex at the FireTV 4k. So if this issue is completely related to the FireTV application, the NAS maybe doesnt recognize it?
Is there any option to force a more detailed report of whats going on on the FireTV stick?

Blockquote: The only thing I saw playing was Underwater (2020) using Firefox on the PC.

That’s right, my first idea was a corrupted file, so I tested the playback on my PC.
Or in other words: We are investigating on the backend, but IMO the frontend is faulty<

OK, so I reinstalled Plex, but this didn’t change anything at all.
I have doubts that it is a permission thing, since this setup is running without issues for more than 1 year.

But I have news.
The reinstall didn’t improve anything, but it provided me some further knowledge

Good News 1:
I have a workaround and I am able to watch movies again.

Good News 2:
I think I know more about the issue, what is causing it, the root cause

Bad News:
The root cause is… the fu… New Player Design.
To be honest, I hate the new player and each update my first action is to turn it of.
No idea if the design guys ever looked on that, but the new design is a shame. Every information squeezed into a corner, and a blurred random image as a background? WTF is this $hit
The old one got the series-background. The items are well-aligned. former episode, next episode, text…

So after reinstalling the app on the FireTV stick it worked fine again - but the New Player Design from hell was active again. So I turned it off to get the old design back… and here we are: No more movies, kicked to the FireTV startscreen each time again and again.
Turning on the Design from hell again = works fine again.

So the old player is causing the issue.
That’s good to get it working, but at least for me it’s a workaround only. I do not want this fu… new design. Never ever. So how can I open a case to get the old player fixed again?

So Do you know how I can report this Bug to get it fixed?

Sounds not realy reasonable to me.
Turning it of… Ok (even if I don’t prefer it).
But breaking it and don’t Do anything, thats not how IT should supposed to ne, thats not how to behave

I am not against the new player itself, but the design is horrible.
Why changig the series menu background to a blurrish whatever this is?
Why squeezing all the stuff to one corner, and 3/4 of the screen ist empty? Oh wait, not empty. Epic blurred “artwork” 4tw…

And I know there are more than enough posts saying the same.
