FireTV s t ick constantly buffering - used to work fine

I started using the Amazon FireTV stick lite back in October 2020 and things were great.

But In the last month or so (May 2021) all sorts of problems have cropped up.
I’ve tried updating the Plex app a few times, and just updated the server (ubuntu)
On some videos Plex is unusable. On the same FireStick, same video the VLC app plays fine through smb share.

I noticed this in the plex console while trying to play:
