If you are using the advanced options in settings.cfg to disable PlexConnect's DNS server and using your own (e.g OSX server or iptables in a Tomato/WRT router) or you switch back to the ATV's automatic DNS server then the option will not be able block firmware updates; you will need to rearrange your own redirection for the three URL's related to firmware updates.
Is there an issue with upgrading to the latest ATV firmware? I felt sure I'd read it was okay but if the new 0.2 roadmap will block updates I figure there must be a reason.

Well if Apple decide to write a 'fix' for the workaround to block the DNS being intercepted (is it possible to stop it working? Maybe some kind of authentication to verify it is reaching Apple servers?), then you don't want your ATV to automatically update and cause the ATV not to work with PlexConnect.
Figured it was something like that.
Hopefully they won't as there's a relatively small amount of plex users using an ATV for this. And blocking the update will block updates to some of the new ATV features.
I don't think Apple will care too much about Plex/us... but this definitely might be calling trouble: http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/72389-uh-oh-and-so-it-begins/
The trailers app does not use HTTPS (it does not send any personal info so has no need to add unnecessary overhead) and it requires the user to explicitly enable it but i think we would like to be cautious.
I would suggest that all users save new SHSH blobs as they become available and block updates to give them the widest range of options ;)

why ? is there a way that plexconnect won't work on future updates ?
and you can update the guide and say plexconnect supports 5.3, the most of the people here have it and it works great :)

It has just been explained why, if you do not understand HTTP versus HTTPS then you need to go away and do some reading on networking ;)
The wiki states it is compatible with 5.3.
Hi f00b4r,
Thanks for the explanation, i misinterpreted what it was saying.
About the SHSH blobs. I don't know anything about this (i'm not sure i even want to) But from what i just read about it there are several solutions for creating those and things to keep in mind and so on. Could you give me some pointers on how to go about creating those?
Thanks.
Download TinyUmbrella, configure it to save the blobs to e.g. your Dropbox folder (somewhere safe and backed up anyway as they have previously had issues with Cydia saving them), plug in your ATV using the USB cable, run TinyUmbrella and select save blobs.
Rerun TinyUmbrella, with your ATV plugged in, every time Apple bring out a new firmware (you may have to wait a week for TinyUmbrella to be updated to cope with the new blobs).
Thanks a lot. Will do!
Maybe a bit OT, but is it correct that I can't backup my blobs for 5.3 using the latest version of TinyUmbrella (6.14.00)? It only tries to get blobs for older versions...
Edit: just found http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/topic/72481-new-atv-3-any-reason-not-to-update-the-os/ so this seems correct.
