First time install - A single file is missing from my videos

Hello,

I have just installed the latest version plexmediaserver_1.41.0.8994-f2c27da23_arm64.deb on my Raspberry Pi 4

I setup a TV program library in Plex and uploaded via winscp all my (.avi) DVD rips on my TV programs.

One folder of rips is for Phoenix Nights, now on my DVD there are 6 episodes and 1 outtake video (See folder list below)

Now, in Plex Web when I go in to the TV programs and find Phoenix Nights I find 2 icons,l one for Series 1 and the other for series 2 bith of which show 6 files in each. So the outtake file is not showing up.
If I search via Plex Search for Phoenix Nights it just brings up 12 files (Episodes) and if I just search for “outtakes” then nothing shows up.

Is there a way to find and view this outtakes video file? I can confirm that the file does exist in the physical library location on the raspberry Pi.

You need to get the basics right, before you can think about adding local extras.
The file names of the episodes look alright, but they must be located within the correct folder structure: https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/ Only then will you be able to add the local extras.

There are special rules for the file names of local extras. Your current name won’t work: https://support.plex.tv/articles/local-files-for-tv-show-trailers-and-extras/

Keep in mind that the web app doesn’t show season extras, but only global ones.
(You need to use the android mobile app or Plex HTPC to see them.)

Rescanned and all works ok, so now I added

TV Shows/Phoenix Nights/Season 01/Phoenix Nights S01 - Outtakes-other.avi and rescanned but this does not show…

TV Shows/Phoenix Nights/Season 01/Other/Phoenix Nights S01 - Outtakes-other.avi and rescanned but this does not show…

So I then created TV Shows/Phoenix Nights/Other/Phoenix Nights S01 - Outtakes-other.avi and rescanned but this does not show…

Can you please suggest where the Outtake video should be placed so it’s visible.

This would only show on clients which support season-level extras. The web app doesn’t belong to those.

You have here both a subfolder named by a type of extras, as well as the file name suffix -other. Only use one of these.

Same as before.

After adding extras, you need to Refresh Metadata of the show. A regular library scan doesn’t pick up those extras.

Side notes:

  • there is no need to include the show’s title in the file name of the extras. I would advise against it, because the file name becomes the title of the extra in Plex. Screen space is scarce - keep them short.
  • add the year of the first airing of s01e01 to the folder name of the show. This helps with proper matching and getting the right metadata. Particularly important if there are several shows by the same title.
  • if you just created these files, I urge you to NOT use the AVI format anymore. It is one of the worst, particularly for streaming. Use mp4 or mkv.
  • Personally, I would classify outtakes and bloopers etc as “Deleted Scenes”.
