If the show isn't in TVDB, it plays S01E01

This is new, and a mess. Here’s an example: For the Patty Duke Show, I have extras that aren’t listed in TVDB. So I add them as SOOE## and manually enter title and info. This has always worked before. So one of them is cast interviews, which I named S00E04. When I click on it to play, it instead plays S01E01. The same exact thing happens with other shows, e.g. Get Smart, where I have dozens of DVD extras that are not listed in TVDB. All extras that are listed in TVDB for both shows play fine. Any idea what the issue is? This was not the case previously.

EDIT: This is NOT true for all shows. Extras entered the same exact way for Star Trek: The Next Generation play fine. I am totally befuddled.

This is not so much about media not being in TVDb. There’s been reports for some time and I’ve experienced it myself that Plex will play a different/wrong episode for some special episodes. At some point it was mentioned this might be linked to an overlapping air-date and there’s been some mentions about a fix in recent release notes – though there’s still reports about this issue.

As for your particular case…
Have you considered organizing those extras as actual local extras (e.g. interviews, featurettes, behind-the-scenes…) instead of special episodes (well… actual special episodes)?

Yes – tried using the method at https://support.plex.tv/articles/local-files-for-tv-show-trailers-and-extras/ – but they will not show up at all using that method (either on PC or iOs).

Currently you will only see local extras for tv-show for all tiers (show, season, episode) on mobile Android and iOS clients. The Apple TV client will display local extras for shows and seasons. All other clients are currently only capable to display local extras for the show itself (though Plex is working to expand that).

If the extras are not showing on iOS, you got something wrong with their organization/file names :wink:

I am only trying to do show extras, not season or episode, and they still will not show up on PC or iOs. I tried two different ways:

Method One:

/Patty Duke Show
      Cast interviews-interview.mp4
      S01E01.mp4
      S01E02.mp4
      etc etc

Method Two:

/Patty Duke Show
      /Interviews
              Cast interviews-interview.mp4
      S01E01.mp4
      S01E02.mp4
      etc etc

Neither causes the interviews to show on PC or iOs.

EDIT: I can’t get tabs to work on the post, but hopefully it makes sense.

For method #2, drop the -interview file suffix.
Generally the naming is ok. I recommend you actually use season folders to get a clear structure – otherwise Plex might get thrown off as for what is a season/show level extra.

Example:

Patty Duke Show
  Interviews
    Cast interviews.mp4
  Season 01
    Patty Duke Show - s01e01.mp4
    Patty Duke Show - s01e02.mp4
    ...

or

Patty Duke Show
  Cast interviews-interview.mp4
  Season 01
    Patty Duke Show - s01e01.mp4
    Patty Duke Show - s01e02.mp4
    ...

Still no go… no clue what I am doing wrong. Here’s a printout of the new folder structure. The interview and the “other” still are not visible in Plex on PC or iOs.
