Folder View

Plex is installed on a Synology NAS. half of my media is either missing or incorrectly matched. Is there a way to browse MY file structure and not have Plex match my media? I can’t seem to find a folder view option on the NAS version of the software?

  1. If media is not seen, check permissions. User Plex must have permissions to read it.

  2. Incorrect matching is 99.9% a naming problem:

  3. On Synology, using the default Video share is problematic. Best advice is to make discrete shares which you control and plex has been given permission to read.

Here is how to verify user Plex has permission to read the media.

I spoke to synology tech support and I did give read/write permission but some of the files are not being seen by plex. When looking in a folder view on my PC I see the main folder then the subfolder but when I open it plex thinks it’s empty. Is there a way for Plex to add all the files in the folders that I am telling it are media? I don’t care if I Plex does not show trailers, cast, pictyres or any of that junk. I just want my media to play.

If Plex thinks the folder is empty, but you can see the files in it, this is purely a permissions problem.

Linux is very strict about such things. Windows has no such protections between usernames where Linux (which is what DSM uses) does. It will not let one user (plex) see another user’s (yours) without expressly granted permissions.

The steps to grant that permission is what I showed in the “Security Changes” How-To above.

The next step, once they can be seen in the Plex web browser, is to ensure the names are named how Plex needs them (the other links) so it can match them to the public databases and retrieve all the posters.
