Force Plex to Match Media

How do you force a movie to Match as Personal Media like Plex used to be able to do?

I have a several Scholastic Storybook DVDs that consist of short book movies. Not all of them are listed on IMDb, TMDb, or TVDb.

Placing these in a personal Videos library is not a viable solution as they are part of a Collection in which a vast majority of these titles are listed on IMDb, TMDb, or TVDb and I do not want to separate them in my file system or my Plex Movie library.

I don’t want these showing up as Unmatched titles in my Plex Movie library either. What can I do to force Plex to mark these as Matched?

For example, Cat & Canary is not listed on IMDb, TMDb, or TVDb. For these situations, I need to manually add the properties and cover art using other online sources. I used the details from prime video in this case.

The problem is this title is still identified as an Unmatched title in my Plex library. Having Unmatched titles is problematic.

I should note that Plex Movie is the only Agent available for matching titles in the Movie library.

Any help with forcing a match without creating a separate library or changing the Movie library to Personal Media would be greatly appreciated.

Have you considered simply adding the item to TMDb?

I never used TMDb, but decided to register and give it a shot.

Honestly, that’s too much work considering I’ve got about a dozen of those book Movie Shorts that aren’t listed on IMDb which is what I understand Plex uses to feed their own system.

I have to edit them manually as of now anyway. Adding that TMDb to my list is not spare time that I have… and there’s no guarantee that my contributions will ever benefit any other Plex users.

That’s by definition tricky as Plex only considers something “matched” if it’s matched against the online repository used by an agent. If you know the video is listed somewhere else you might try working with a 3rd party agent – though that’ll require to use some legacy agent for the entire library, which isn’t ideal.

What’s wrong with filling in the essential data and let Plex think it’s still unmatched?

Thanks for confirming the shortcomings of Plex. Just another feature REMOVED over the years that was actually needed for a Home Media Library.

Because when I add new content, I need to show Unmatched to address anything that should be matched. When I slap lipstick on an UNMATCHED title, it’s still there… like herpes… it never goes away.
I’ve been doing the manual edits for some time now, but having it mixed in with stuff I know WILL match after correcting a filename, a year, etc. is a problemsome to say the least.

Here is a simple solution, tag the known unmatched media with a label, then when looking for new unmatched materials have a filter IS Unmatched AND NOT <unmatched label>
