Forcing public users to become beta testers!

In recent weeks Plex has started to become unreliable again on Android TV. If a user is a public user and has not signed up for beta please don’t bring the beta issues to the public. There’s a reason why they don’t want to be beta testers. I wish Plex would start to have more stable public builds and leave the bugs in beta for a while until fixed! Examples,

Mi box s 9.0
•New video player does not work (or android 9.0 in general)
• Minimized video, how do you reopen it without having to scroll back through the guide to click on the channel?
• Random picture pixelation, on some channels constant & unable to watch. Works fine on HDHOMERUN app
• When watching live TV and turning the device off it keeps that tv station in a freezed state on the server. This starts to create weird issues after hours of being in the Frozen State. Even with the terminate session after certain amount of time of being paused enabled.
• When turning the TV and box back on from standby it states that it has lost connection and it’s hard to get the TV guide and data to come back up. The retry button once again is not working right.

Nvidia Shield non tube versions,
• Random rotations of death. Channel won’t initialize.
• Audio on live TV goes in and out for up to five minutes before stabilizing.
• I like to call this to everybody freeze error. This was fixed but has recently come back as an issue in the past couple updates. When a live TV user starts TV intermittently will cause everyone on the server to freeze for a second.

Firestick 4k,
• Just a headache in general. Audio and video quality problems for quite some time now.

Speaking for myself being stuck at home, sometimes I just want to watch TV and not have all these issues. I wish Plex would come up with a list of devices that they fully support and believe they won’t have issues on with a public build. So maybe put on the back burner the Samsung refrigerator Plex app or the toaster app & lets come up with a list of devices like the Nvidia Shield, Roku, Mi box, firestick and one other to be fully supported by Plex with minimal to no issues.

Error ( not my picture but same saying)

User Joanne, Channel still shows it’s playing but the device is off and as you can see it gets stuck with the show that it was turned off on. It’s 10 a.m. not 9 a.m.

By the way I do love the new Plex Dash app!!

Have you given any thought that some of the Fire TV stick issue might have been with the Android OS… ExoPlayer… and not just Plex Client…

Forcing the Plex Dev’s to find fixes, while the ExoPlayer was also being fixed.
Just read the Plex threads it all there…
You can also read the threads/issues over on the GitHub amzn / exoplayer-amazon-port

So I don’t believe that they forced anyone to do anything…

That is what I’ve heard, but then I also heard from other people in forums (which I can’t confirm) that using the hdhomerun app or emby and they don’t have that issue. Correct me if I’m wrong because really I don’t know that’s why I didn’t really go into detail on that too much as I got rid of nine of My Fire Sticks because of the problem. That was just a costly mistake.

Use the old player in the client…

Right… but once you’re part of the Android TV beta testers (part of the workaround)… how to I exit the beta program ? Cannot find any explicit way to do it…

There is no such “beta” option for me (tried on both the native Android Google Play Store, as well as from within Chrome)… ,-(

Beta’s are posed by Plex on the forums for Plex Pass Users, you have to load them yourself manually.

What lol, on Android they’re automatically loaded if you’re in the beta program. They’re released on the website to manually load or via the Google Play Store beta application.

I’m a Plex Pass user; and opted in (voluntarily) ok mostly because Plex was not working any longer when my Xiaomi box S 4K self updated on Android v9 - now, no clue on how to exit the beta…

(by the way, once enrolled on the Beta, you directly can install it from Android TV via the Google Play store - not necessary to install it manually)

Not sure which device your using…
I know I had to side load the fire stick…

Xiaomi box S 4K (now running Android v9); where side download btw. usually fails ,-)

Had no problems side loading the fire sticks through at least 10 beta releases…
