Plex won't see the SRT

Hi,

I’ve a mkv movie and I downloaded an ENG SRT off the internet. But Plex won’t see it. I even tried .en.forced but no avail.

I came across some threads on here having the similar issue. Is this a known bug/issue?

Thanks

Which server platform?
Is the Local Media Assets agent activated?
How is the subtitle named? How is the main movie file named? How is the folder named where they both reside in?

Plex Media Server on OSX
Yes, the agent is activated. This is the only media where I’ve this problem.
Folder - Movie (2015)
Movie file - Movie (2015)
SRT file - Movie (2015).en

Should not the SRT file be = Movie (2015).en.srt ? Sorry if its a typo, but all my SRTs work just fine (Win7 server, Visio Smart TV, and Plex Media Player on the PC.)

Are the mdia files locally on the Apple machine or are they on a network share?
Do the file names or the folder names contain any non-ascii characters like é ä ß ó etc pp ?

The media file is on a NAS share. It works alright with Kodi.
No non-ascii characters in the folder or the file names.

May I seemediainfo XML of that movie?

Here is the info -

Sorry for asking again:
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
the line ‘Local Media Assets’ is checked ?

Could you zip the srt file and attach it?

Yes , the line “Local Media Assets (Movies)” is checked.
The srt file is attached.

Thanks

I can see nothing wrong with the subtitle file.
It should just work.

do these two files share the folder they’re in with other files? How are their file names?

Could you please

  1. activate debug logging (not ‘verbose’!)
  2. quit Plex Server
  3. wait 1 minute
  4. empty the log folder
  5. start Plex Server
  6. wait 2 minutes
  7. Plex Dance this movie
  8. wait 3 minutes
  9. shut down Plex server
  10. wait 1 minute
  11. zip up the whole log folder and attach it here

Interestingly after following the above instructions, Plex is now showing up the subtitles as “English (SRT External)”. Sigh.

Do you still want to look at the logs?

Based on what I could see in the DEBUG log, the “auto-select subtitle” messages seemed similar now and before when I did “analyse”. Not sure why Plex wasn’t selecting the srt file. I understand the debug might not spit out every details. The subtitle file was added at a later date than the movie itself.

Thanks

You might be right. It won’t reveal much enlightening detail.
But ¯_(ツ)_/¯ if it helped…
