Forum problem: Forum forgets when I've marked forums as read

I routinely use the ‘Mark Read’ command on forums from the forum list (forums Home page). Frequently, a thread in a forum will show something like this:

Note that it thinks there are 112 new posts. And, indeed, when I open the thread, it takes me to a post from 2 or 3 weeks ago (it’s a pretty active discussion). I had marked this forum as read about an hour ago, so there is no way there are 112 new ones since then.

This happens several times a day, across all forums. Vanilla doesn’t seem to value problems reported by individuals, so I hope Plex will raise the issue with them.

I believe this is the way they have coded it to occur.

If you (like I do whenever I’ve gone through the forums) mark everything as read it seems like it keeps track of how far you have read in threads that you have previously browsed so that you can go back and look at them later.

Clicking the mark all as read will clear it at that time, but if someone else replies it will show how many replies since you last read the thread.

No 100% sure if this is the case, but it certainly seems to be how it works. Personally I kind of like it so if I miss a thread a couple times and then decide I want to get back into it I can start where I left off.

That doesn’ t seem very intuitive. When I mark a thread or forum as Read, it means I don’t need to be reminded of any posts made prior to that time.

Here’s another example:

As far as I can remember, I have never looked at this thread, and it has never before popped up with 100 new messages.

The reason I’m skeptical about the idea that this is intentional, coded behavior is that it is too intermittent. The post above, for example, hasn’t done this before today, and it’s one I don’t think I’ve ever visited. There are plenty of examples of threads that I have visited, but not recently, that don’t do this. If it were intended behavior, I think I would be seeing this on a much more routine basis.

I still think it’s a bug that Vanilla should be made aware of.
