Fresh PMS install fails to fetch covers for TV shows.

I’m not getting any covers, banners, or backdrops for any of my TV shows. Other metadata like plots etc. gets pulled in fine. This is a fresh install and it’s worth mentioning that an older PMS server of mine does get covers for any newly added TV shows, even when running the same PMS version.

When I wipe the server and do a fresh install with an older PMS version then everything works as expected; it’s not the hardware, OS, nor the network that is at fault here.

If you are referring to 1.1.0, please help me conduct a piece of research.

Now that the files all have been added, do a forced “Refresh All” (upper right). See if the metadata doesn’t start coming down.

If my suspicion is true, there may be a very minor glitch in the hand-off from when scanning is complete to metadata retrieval & loading (at the automated level not the metadata level itself)

I did the fresh install with 1.0.3 and it was on that version I noticed this on. I updated to 1.1 today hoping it would fix it but it appeared not to. However, it seems I spoke too soon; I was afk for awhile and when I came back I noticed the shows I added while on 1.1 had gotten artwork while the shows I added while on 1.0.3 had not. So, for any shows I’ll add from now on, it appears 1.1 fixed what was wrong after all.

I’m going to try and delete the shows I added while on 1.0.3 and add them again and see if they’ll finally get artwork too. Running “Refresh All” did nothing for the shows I added while on 1.0.3, and the shows I added while on 1.1 had already gotten their artwork by the time I ran it.

EDIT: Phew. That did it. Removing the shows I added on 1.0.3 and adding them again on 1.1 got me their artwork.

Sigh, well, it started happening again. Getting no artwork for newly added shows. Same server, nothing has changed. I’m beginning to think this has something to do with <agent>.plexapp.com.

(Is there a way to remove the Answered label?)

I forced tvdb2.plex.tv to resolve to 82.94.168.8, which is an IP I get when resolving the domain from another region, and everything works now (until that IP is no longer valid that is).

There have been two reports where ‘undoing’ the additions of 1.0.3 and upgrading to 1.1.0 have fixed it, just like what you’re reporting.

The other way is:

  1. Take those media items you don’t have your artwork for and move them out somewhere
  2. and finish the plex dance. Update - empty - clean (letting each step finish) before the next
  3. Move it back in and start as if new.

I suggest this because series with 500+ episodes, which never got artwork under 1.0.3, were done in nothing flat when added-as-if-new under 1.1

I can only tell you what I hear… a great deal of work was done to the metadata agents. We don’t get the details because we (ninjas) aren’t employees.
