Friend cant see movies on his Plex on PS4

so my friend has Plex on his PS4 and his account. i added him to my “friends list” and he see my media server but is not able to see my movies gives him an error saying “media server is unreachable, once its became availble it will connect”. i have added the folder i want to share under him and show its active. is there something i am doing wrong? he says he see a green lock by the name and im sure that mean its secure or cant be change. but his phone he see all the movies.

I wanted to second this issue.

I have plex beta on my phone, latest tvOS for an Apple TV 4th gen, and latest release on my PS4.

A friends library shows up on my phone, and my AppleTV. The PS4 keeps reporting it offline. I’m wondering if there’s a versioning issue with a specific server version and the latest PS4 client update.

What information would be helpful so that we can get this working again? I’m waiting on my friend to send me his plex server version if that would help.

Can you also check with your friend if they have the security set on their server to “required”? It’s possible the app is having an issue making a secured connection and if the server is set to “required”, then it won’t connect at all and show as offline.

If you have a local PMS, try setting your security level to “required” and see if you see the same behavior. If so, there is an option in the PS4 app to log to your server. Please turn that on and recreate the issue and then get me your PMS logs.

Thanks for your reply! I’m going to work on this a bit tomorrow and Monday. I’ll report my findings as soon as I ask my friend his settings and after also testing your settings modification to see if it begins to behave in the same manner.

So I changed the settings on my local PMS and my library came up fine, so it doesn’t seem to be linked to the security setting. What’s curious is that there’s another PS4 I have my account connected to at a different location and it sees the library fine. Do you think I should uninstall and reinstall the app and relink the device?

If it’s working for you, then there may be something with your friend’s network. The only other test I could think is for you to try is using your account from your friend’s PS4.

I really think that’s an over simplification. For example I can use my phone on the same network as the problematic PS4, WiFi only (no cellular data), and it’s pulling the library fine.

Any other recommendations?

Oops, sorry. Got the issue mixed up momentarily with the OP. Let me check with the devs if they are aware of any connection issues.

I don’t not have a Plex Media Server myself I just have an account and used ps4 and my tv to watch. I just made a account and my friend shares his libraries with me…the app updated on ps4 and not doesn’t not work…states unable to connect …I tried everything I can think of…Plex works if I watch on my laptop or iPad but just not ps4 or tv…I reset my router deleted the app and reinstalled nothing is working…I’m at me wits end please help thanks

The devs have identified some issues with the last PS app update. Hopefully an update will be out soon.

Because I’ve tested it on two PS4s, one a pro which works, and the other a slim, which doesn’t. So I wonder if it’s something with the slims hardware differences, perhaps it has a different code release. I’d be curious if the OP has a slim as well…

He had a Xbox1…that makes sense because I remember reading that the update for PlayStation was geared more for the Pro.

IDK, i have 1st GEN PS4 the PMS libary works fine with mine. my friend has a 2nd Gen i belive but not slim version. still not able to see it.
