Server Version#: 4.51.1
Player Version#: latest version on PS4
I have Plex server installed on a Windows 10 machine (with media on a Synology NAS), I have two users who I have shared my library with and one can access my media without an issue and one who cannot.
The user who cannot “see” me has the player installed on a PS4 (their Vizio SmartTV seems to be too old). They can fire Plex up and have access to all the features Plex offers, but as soon as they click on me, they are told that my server is unavailable. I have confirmed with the other user and I am fully accessible on their setup.
I configured the PS4 with Plex and my account info before giving it to the user and confirmed everything worked as it should…but that was done in my home (same network as the server…not sure if that makes a difference) and everything seemed just fine, but when the user got it to their place…nothing.
I am hoping someone may be able to point me in the right direction as to how to fix this.
The thing that is most confusing is the fact that one person can see me without an issue but the other cant.
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can send my way. Please let me know if there is any more info that will help the troubleshooting process and I will reply as quickly as I can.
I don’t know for certain but I’d say the PS4 Plex app is probably still trying to find your server on a local IP address instead of over the internet.
If it were me I’d instruct the user who cannot see your server to uninstall and reinstall the Plex app and sign back in, which should reset and prompt the Plex app to search for your server over the internet.
Ok…the user has completely uninstalled and reinstalled Plex from the PS4 and they are in the same place. The can see my server, but they cannot access it, apparently it says I am unavailable.
Any idea what we might be able to try next?
Thanks again for any help anyone can provide :o)
Update
I had a friend send my user an invite to their server and all media was accessible right off the bat. Thy also tried connecting to me again and received the same error…I’m “unavailable”.
I am in no way an expert (hence the reason I’m on this forum) but it would seem to me that the issue will be with my configuration somehow.
I just find it super odd that one person can see my media and one cannot.
yes, I am fully accessible from the outside world according to that page (side note, the user who “can” see me has never had an issue connecting with me)
confirmed that everyone has access to libraries
also confirmed that everyone is a “friend” and not home user
I appreciate the tips…I hope I can figure this out eventually, it is rather frustrating.
I remember I once had to remove a user and re-invite them because something on their end wasn’t working correctly, maybe that’s worth a try if you haven’t already tried it?
I also set my Secure connections option to preferred to avoid any unwanted issues.
Thank you for the suggestion. I have finally spoken with the user and confirmed that they can in fact see my library through a browser…so the account itself is fully functional.
That being said, they connected through a browser from their work and not from their home (where they would be primarily using Plex)
I dont know if that is important to know…just trying to provide as much info as possible to help the troubleshooting process.
So to recap, here is what we know, and what we have tried:
user can see other peoples libraries from the PS4 (just not mine)
user has signed out and signed back into account on PS4
user has uninstalled and reinstalled Plex on PS4
they can successfully see my libraries from a browser
other people can see my libraries without issue from both browser and installed app
I have latest version of Plex server installed
Thank you again for any other ideas you may have…it is just so frustrating when there does not seem to be a reason for the issue…so totally random.
We do have the same internet provider (limited selection in our neck of the woods), but we are about an hour apart.
I just checked with the user who can see my libraries and he is on the same ISP as myself and the failing one…but he is about 6 hours away from us…not sure if that will be a factor.
Good news is I seem to have fixed the problem. I added the users IP address to the list of addresses that can connect without authorization and he can see my library (finally)
The bad news is something “broke” and now nobody (even me) can play any files. Even if I try to play directly off the server, I get the “The File associated with this item is not accessible by the server” error.
I doubt it has anything to do with the networking stuff I have been playing with…I hope it is not related to the latest Plex update I installed this morning before digging into the connection issues.
Since this new issue is not related to sharing of Libraries…if I cannot solve it, I assume it would be best to start a new thread looking for help?
Thanks to the two gentleman who offered ideas, it is greatly appreciated.
