Letting friends change Plex/Web settings should be possible but they need to be separated out from the media server settings since they won’t be able to change any of those.

Letting friends choose subtitle and audio tracks will require a PMS change. It’s something we want to support eventually but we haven’t gotten there yet.

now we got 2017 any news??

What kind of subtitles do you have in your media? (SRT, ASS, TX3G, VOBSUB, PGS…)

What kind of clients do your friends use?

Where is yiur server running? (NAS, PC, low power, high power…)

Can you see the subtitles on the videos (after selecting them, of course)?

There were reports about missing subtitles on some Smart TV models with the latest release. But this should not apply to you, since you wouldn’t have access to it (it is currently Plex Pass only).

SMART TV and PC Windows

There are at least 3 different Plex clients available for Windows.
Which are your friends using?

I recommend OpenPHT or PMP.

If they are simply using Plex Web, they should make an adjustment in
Settings - Web - Player - Burn Subtitles = ‘Only Image formats’
This will relieve your server from burning them into the video picture.

Seedbox

Seedbox is a brand name. It doesn’t tell anything about its cpu and especially whether it is able to transcode video or not.

Do your friends select the subtitles? Or do they expect them to activate themselves?
If so, they must pick their own language preferences in their plex accounts

(the above only works if your media and subtitles have a proper language identification in them)

You might wanna flip that to ‘Shown with foreign audio’
That way, ‘forced’ subtitles get automatically activated.

What model of LG? Does it have an official Plex client or does it use the old 3rd party PlayZ app? Or even a generic DLNA player?
