Subtitles coming from other Movies - Wrong Subtitles

I have posted this in another forum, but being new to forums (and a novice) may have posted in wrong one…

I have several movies on my Plex Server but when I watch them they are picking up subtitles from other movies which are completely different. This is only a problem in Plex as when I play the movies via Apple TV they do not display any subtitles,. I have gone through all the setting in Plex on both the TV where the movies are playing, and on the Plex Server. The subtitles are only on the TV so if I play the movie on the Plex Server (iMac) they work fine. I have logged out of Plex the client (TV) and back in again but this has not solved the issue. The client (TV) is an LG Smart TV with the Plex App loaded which is pointing to my Imac (server).

I am really feeling unhappy about this as I am a paid subscriber (12 months) to Plex and cant find anyway to get support from them other than these forums. I am a new users so it may be “user error” but trying to wade though all the forum posts and online help has not given me any help with this very fundamental problem. I have so far spent over 5 hours trying to sort this problem out.
Note: I do not want or need Subtitles so I do not need advice as to how to add my own subtitles.

Hope there is someone out there who can help me out as without this, Plex is just a load of garbage on my TV which will be removed and I will go back to converting movies and using Apple TV

First, welcome to Plex and to the forums.
Support is provided in two ways, through the support docs and through these forums.

To your question, Plex uses an agent (Opensubtitles.org) to automatically grab subtitles. You can disable this agent by doing the following

  • Launch the Plex Web App
  • Choose Settings from the top right of the Home screen
  • Select your Plex Media Server from the horizontal list
  • Choose Agents
  • Choose Freebase (for Movies) or TheTVDB (for TV Shows)
  • Make sure the OpenSubtitles.org source is unchecked

Hi. Thanks for this information. I cant however see anything called Freebase. From horizontal list I choose my server then went to agents and there was a list Movies, Shows, Artists, Albums and Photos and then a list under these depending on which is highlighted, eg. if Movies highlighted then the selection is Personal Media, Plex Movie, or The Movie database.

I have gone into Plex Movie and deselected OpenSubtitles.org so will see if this works, but I cant find any reference to Freebase
