Hello, today I was adding a friend to have permission to access my media server. Since I have Plex Pass I thought that by adding this friend to my Plex Home on top of granting him permission to do downloads and to watch my media, that he would not need any subscription of Plex Pass to do downloads. Or at the max, since he is on my Plex Home, he could enter my profile to do any emergency download, but not even then, he does have access to downloads.
The question is… why is there an option to add a friend account to Plex Home when there is literally no benefit?
I’m not sure, that’s entirely correct.
The user to download items needs a Plex Pass.
There’s exceptions for “grandfathered” accounts where both accounts were created before Aug 1, 2022 (I think that also includes the creation of the download permission).
Managed users in a Plex Home will also be able to download (if granted permission), if the server admin has a Plex Pass. I’m not entirely sure if this does indeed apply to friends who were added to a Plex Home.
