Full remove plex from synology

how can i fully remove plex from my synology and reinstall it?
i keep getting issues from my libraries constantly scanning.

  1. Uninstall the server app
  2. Control Panel - Shared Folders - Remove the Plex or PlexMediaServer shared folder (DSM 6 or DSM 7)
2 App.plex.tv → Settings → Authorized Devices → SERVER dropdown → Find your server name → REMOVE it
  3. Restart DSM
  4. Restart all player apps

when i uninstall which option do i use?

  • uninstall only (keep files for future re-install)
  • sign out and unclaim server ( keep files for future)
  • erase all of plex from this server

@patrickwhalen

It doesn’t matter which you use. Quickest is the default (keep).
The primary goal in this step is to remove the software.

Deleting the PlexMediaServer shared folder destroys all the server data

Ok thanks.

I have re-installed Plex and all my libraries have been added, but now Plex crashes while scanning and I have no idea it does unless I go into the Plex app and see all my libraries greyed out and gonto my synology and see in the package Center that Plex isn’t even running.

Stop Plex

Make a ZIP file of the Logs directory under PlexMediaServer and attach it here.

This sounds like a permissions problem.

here are the logs
Logs.zip (4.4 MB)

@patrickwhalen

Renaud was playing a lot of things and filled up your logs with playback actitivity.

The next time it crashes, as soon as your start (or manually before you restart), please grab the logs and attach here for me so I can see what it was doing.

you mentioneed that it seemed like permissions issues.
did you see anything that looked like that?

on my synology i was lookiing over all my permissions and everything seems normal to me.

for permissions is this the proper way to do it?
i have a shared fodler named media, that i gave plexmediauser read and white access.
in the media fodler i have sub folders for each library, if i right click and look at the properties all the permissions are greyed out. should they be greyed out?

Those permissions are right.

When you set them, did you “Apply to this folder, sub-folders and files” ?

(It’s very important when you have other automatic programs writing media files directly)

Given you have the sc- named users, you might want to verify they set:

  1. Directories = 755
  2. Files = 644

This way, even if they mess up the ACLs (how Syno works), the underlying Linux layer will still grant permission

i did check of the “apply to this folder and subfolders”

how do i check if the SC-users have things set properly?
