Fully Populated EPG switches to "Guide Is Empty"

The ongoing EPG problems have been presented by Plex as a problem with metadata provider. However, I very strongly believe that there is also a serious problem with the error handling in the PMS server as well – and I’m a very experienced systems programmer. I have no doubt that something is wrong at the metadata provider end since the refresh keeps terminating abnormally. However, the guide should not become empty after this happens. It’s happened to me 5 times since last Thursday – including each of the last two nights in the hours before 8:00 pm and twice in the mornings (after nightly maintenance), including this morning. After a refresh fails, it seems that the server is sometimes being left in a state where it can’t display the guide. If I shutdown PMS (which is not a great option when recordings are in progress) and restart PMS, then I might see 12 hours of guide.

So, yes there’s a problem with the provider. But it really looks like there is a serious problem with your server software as well. If the refresh fails, there should be sufficient error handling code to prevent the bad state that the guide is left in and/or the destruction of the previously good EPG data.

There was an issue giving rise to JSON Parse Error where the response for the guide refresh contained error 403 Forbidden. This should be fixed now.

Additionally Plex Media Server beta 1.14.0.5465 has retries for failed requests to fetch the guide - so that in itself would have helped whilst the issue was there

Please do manual update to the guide and once that completes ok, then incremental updates would ensure the guide remains up to date

If problems persist, please provide fresh logs from the server with debug logging enabled beforehand and also a zip of the Diagnostics directory which is within the Plex Media Server data area
