Gapless playback of MP3/ALAC/AAC do you want it?

A lack of gapless playback makes “Sgt. Pepper”, Pink Floyd, Alan Parsons Project and many others, particularly classical recordings, unlistenable. Seriously, what does it take for Plex to add some caching and make this a reality?

Plex is not gapless on: AppleTV, Tivo, TV, Blu-ray player apps. But is fine in desktop web browser. There’s so many other options for the desktop that working fine in a web browser does not help at all.

Another vote for this from me and my large collection of dj mix cds ripped to multiple MP3s

YES YES YES. It is needed now and for Flac files!

It seems I get gapless playback with the iOS app now. At least with AAC files.

Edit:
Works also with ALAC files (Apple Lossless).

I will take Gapless play feature please!

I was just listening to dark side of the moon though plex web. Speak To Me builds up and hits its crescendo… then a half second of silence before Breath kicks in where speak me left off (sigh ). Spotify figured out gapless playback in 2012…

I’m shocked Gapless still isn’t implemented yet

Gapless! Gapless! Gapless!!!..

Still need gapless playback here on FLAC.

Gapless plaback like we had in 1998 with Winamp!
Did we lost all the brains solving the millennium bugs?

Honest to God Y’all!
Do you not have a single Pink Floyd fan on your staff?
I love Plex but HATE the fact we cannot listen to music the way the artist intended it to be played.
Its been YEARS of people asking for this feature and its such a simple thing to do!
Tried to listen to Dark Side Of The Moon last night and could not get past it.
Keep up the great work, but for the love of God, listen to the feedback and spend 15 minutes and add the feature.

It’s funny you should mention Winamp because I just came across an email from Plex News regarding their new Plexamp app and they can’t help but make the comparison:

Audiophiles of yesteryear will fondly recall Winamp, a popular media player giving users a wide variety of options and flexibility to enjoy their music of choice. To reignite the music-lover’s flame, Plexamp was created to offer a full-featured Plex music player for your desktop.

If anyone is interested, or cares:

And of course, one of the main features mentioned about Plexamp is it has, “Gapless Playback”. So I excitedly installed Plexamp to give it a try but quickly found out that Plex’s definition of “Gapless” is much different from my own…

I’ve always considered “Gapless” playback as a seamless transition between audio tracks; I’m guessing I am not alone in this matter. But from what I can tell, the Plexamp app is using a ~80ms crossfade between tracks which, from my experience, is causing an annoyingly audible blip in the playback between almost every transitional audio track. I find the same issue is present in both the Windows and Mac version of the app. And to cover my bases, no, this issue does not exist when listening to the audio files directly.

So in short, it seems that Plex still does not have a Gapless (truly seamless gapless) playback option available, even though they’re beginning to advertise that an option is available…

Don’t get me wrong, I get that Plexamp is a new experimental 1.0 app developed (in Plex’s own words), “by a handful of people inside Plex in their spare time”. But this is very discouraging to me. Gapless (truly seamless gapless) playback is something many users have wanted since Plex first supported music files. I’m still hoping they’ll figure out how to make gapless a standard across all platforms offered; the HTML page being my first preference. But given how long this thread alone has been open, how many other features they’ve developed in the mean time and the fact that the only step toward gapless is yet another app they could only give attention to in their spare time, yet still fails to do gapless right, I’m beginning to think it’ll never happen. So here I am, yet again, whining about my first world problems…

I guess I am in the minority but I grew up with phonographs and, even if you used an automatic turntable, there were still regular “gaps” during playback. If you used a manual turntable (they generally had superior sound and they were less damaging to the records) the “gaps” were longer.I NEVER found those “gaps” a problem although I usually used an automatic turntable because I did find getting up after each record to change records be unpleasant.

Therefore I do not see any need for gapless playback. I actually like there to be a gap between songs as it gives my brain time to reset and prepare for the next musical selection.

But I guess it would be good to have gapless playback included as long as using it is a choice. But experience says that if Plex does implement it then it will be forced on everyone to the detriment of my musical experience and I believe at least a few others.

Sorry but … even with google translator (I’m from Italy) I did not understand what you mean

however … have you ever listened to this record?

Hello
I also downloaded the app
and I confirm what you say
the “detachment” between the tracks is audible
nothing to do with apps that have a true gapless system

I realize that the Plexamp player supports gapless playback, but this is a must-have for plex web and mobile clients.

please no gaps on mobile devices <3

yes please

Still looking for gapless playback. Mixed albums just don’t playback correctly in current form. Please add this feature (it shoud be standard as all other major media players have it)

Pls add this!
