Getting ANGRY with Remote Access!

Server Version#: 1.43.4.10903
Server : QNAP TS453A

Hi

I’ve decided to go back to Plex for my music library, as its simply better and nicer that Emby.

However, I’m getting seriously p***d off with Plex deciding it just doesnt want to allow remote access. It’s a clean install with one music library added. Its using the standard ports of external 13785 and internal of 32400:

To allow Plex to manage the port forwarding I reenabled upnp briefly for this purpose, so you can see I have port forwarded set on my router:

You will also see another rule of manually setting the external port of 9999. Both scenarios initially states external access is available, and then it reverts back to the above.

Yet, on a mobile device on a mobile network, I can navigate to my external WAN address with port 9999 set manually or the Plex default port of 13785 and I can hit the Plex login page, sign in successfully and use plex. I can also use the Plex app on my mobile device successfull, despite the server saying its not accessible remotely!

Whilst it working remotely despite this error, when I try and use PlexAmp on my mobile device, I sign in, i then get the Select Library screen, and it says No servers found! WTF !

This i can only assume is because the server says its not accessible remotely, despite me being able to use the standard Plex app or directly in a browser over a mobile network. Its either working or not working, which is it!

I had this issue last year when I attempted this, and a reboot of the PMS and my NAS seemed to resolve it, so I have already done that again and to no resolution.

Please can someone help, because I want to use Plex for my extensive music library, but the main use case is when I am external to my network. Currently Plex is unusable and I cannot tell why?

Thanks for help in advance, as this is driving me up the wall !!!

Since you can hit it directly via public ip and port your forwarding is correct. I do suggest you go back to manual forwarding and keep UPnP disabled.

Stop plex, go to the Cache directory in the Plex Media server folder, is there a certificate.p12 file? If so, rename it certificate.p12.old and start plex back up. It should download cert-v2.p12.

See if your remote access stays green and apps connect successfully.

Hi @veeejay .

I have already disabled upnp, I only enabled it as a test to allow Plex to manage the port forwarding. When it didn’t resolve it, I turned it off. I always manage any port forwarding manually.

Let me check the certificate, and I’ll come back to you. Thanks

OK, so I renamed the certificate p12 with .old and restarted PMS. It did indeed download a cert-v2.p12.

I’ve tried Plexamp again on my mobile device, and whilst initially it didn’t find any server, after about 20 seconds my Music library appeared.

So far remote access has remained green. Thank you so much @veeejay !
