Getting Bluray 3D To Work On Plex and NVIDIA ShieldTV (2019)

I have Plex running on the latest version of ShieldTV (not the cylinder one; the flat one). I have my 3D movies named like:

The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey (2012).3d.sbs.bluray.mkv

I have tried the following as well:

The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey (2012) 3D-SBS.bluray.mkv
The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey (2012) 3D-SBS bluray.mkv
The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey (2012) H-SBS bluray.mkv

The projector does not switch to 3D mode. I cannot switch it to 3D mode with the remote since it says that the media is not 3D. If I play the movie named like:

The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey (2012).3d.sbs.bluray.mkv

using Kodi on a Raspberry Pi device I get proper behavior through the projector; that is, it switches to 3D mode automatically.

What do I need to do to get Plex play the 3D movies like Kodi can? I now prefer Plex over Kodi.

Go to Plex settings, turn resolution switching to on.

I need to name the file something like this as well?

The Hobbit - An Unexpected Journey (2012) H-SBS bluray.mkv

You shouldn’t have to rename anything. You should now be able to switch to 3D with the remote.

I tried that and I still get a message on screen indicating that the stream cannot be switched to 3D. This is all automatically done with Raspberry Pi and Kodi. I do not know what else that I need to do. I set Plex to allow resolution change and to allow frame rate change.

No need for frame rate change. Try a restart.
You are using Plex on the Shield right, just making sure.
This should work.

Yes. I now have only resolution change allowed. The other settting was refresh rate turned to on. It is off now as the default is. I am using on the latest version of ShieldTV, the flat one original form factor not the cylinder one. So far no go.

The remote control letting you switch to 3D now?
Restart both devices? I’m using this setup and it works.

No. It says Current input image settings do not display in 3D. I restarted the ShieldTV with no change in behaviour. I know that the projector works fine since Raspberry Pi/Kodi works 3D no problem. Something really simple missing here.

This is odd.

So you have what I have except with exception of the Epson projector. This is a real drag.

Oh, you have an Epson… there’s a known issue with that projector and 3D with Plex.

Epson PowerLite Pro Cinema 6030UB

Ok try rename with H-SBS at the end of the file name.
H-SBS.mkv (Side by Side)
H-TAB.mkv (Top/Bottom)
make sure the video is not being transcoded.

I tried that I think but I’ll try again just in case.

I tried the rename and no change. Dangit. I doubt transcoding isn’t occurring but I’ll turn it off anyway to try.

I think there are a few archive threads about that on here.

Sorry I couldn’t help you more.

I tried disabling transcoding with no change in results. You did your best. Thank you.
