Getting error: "Something went wrong. Please install manually."

Server Version#: 1.25.6.5577
Player Version#: n/a

I’ve been using Plex for quite some time. I’ve recently had some trouble playing movies locally and then looked at the PMS in a browser and see the error: Version 1.25.6.5577 Something went wrong. Please install manually.

I’ve tried uninstalling Plex Media Server and re-installing. I get the same message.

I’ve looked at the troubleshooting help linked in the forums and searched the forums. The program is not blocked from being installed, since it starts up OK. I can play movies and TV shows just fine in the browser on my computer. I can also play movies and TV shows just fine from my Amazon Fire Stick locally.

So, it doesn’t seem like there’s a problem in use, just the error message. Can I safely ignore the error message? Or do I need to fix this?

Thanks for any help.

This might happen if you used software like CCleaner to uninstall Plex server previously.

Another possibility is that the “Plex updater service” is not running.
Did you move the Plex data folder away from its default location? If you did, you probably forgot to move the registry branch for this service as well. See the “addendum” part of this post: [HowTo] An extended guide on how to move the Plex data folder on Windows

Thanks for the reply.
I have CCleaner, but rarely use it. I did not use it to uninstall anything.
I did not move any folders for Plex. Not even the movie/show storage location, let alone the data folder.
Everything ran great for 1+ years, after all updates – until recently I saw that error message after an update.
Hopefully it’ll clear itself up in the future, just like it mysteriously caused a problem recently.

However, since you posted that link on moving the data folder, I think I’ll take you up on that since my SSD C: drive isn’t very big. Any space I can move off of it is a win.
