Is J a network drive?

Install Plex to the C:\ drive of your computer. Installing to other drives can sometimes cause problems.

  1. Reboot your PC.
  2. Fully remove existing versions of Plex, including registry keys and Plex data folder.
    See Uninstall Plex Media Server.
  3. Reboot your PC.
  4. Re-download Plex Media Server from https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/#plex-media-server.
  5. Install Plex Media Server on the C:\ drive of your computer.

If desired, you can relocate the Plex Data Folder, where Plex stores its database and other information, to another local drive. Do not move the Plex data folder to a network drive.

See [HowTo] An extended guide on how to move the Plex data folder on Windows

thanks, did I understand correctly that you just need to reinstall Plex and everything should work?

Yes. But it should have worked the first time… ← FYI, not directed at you. Just saying sometimes installations/updates fail for unknown reasons.

Be aware that the process I outlined removes all traces of Plex from your system. It is like starting over. All libraries, sharing with other users, etc will have to be recreated.

followed instructions and no luck

You’re running into a MSI package issue (search the forum with the error code to see others w/ the same problem).

See this support note regarding the Windows FixIt tool. It was written for Win10. Hopefully the process is the same or very close for Win11.
