Ghostly echo of a TV episode that thinks its a film

Hello,

I have a particular episode of James Corden (don’t judge me) that keeps appearing in the FILM section. I have deleted it thoroughly, but each JC episode that is downloaded after suddenly comes up in the film section with the ORIGINAL TITLE OF THE TROUBLESOME EPISODE. I love PLEX but am currently PERPLEXED. Any suggestions?

Totally judging. This is my judging face if you cannot tell… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

If you haven’t already, you may need to try doing essentially a full Plex Dance after deleting the episode. (without doing step 5 obviously)

So… you say that all future James Corden episodes download, and appear in your “Movies” library?

Makes sure you don’t - for some reason - have your Movie library index a folder where you download JC episodes to. Check the folder sources you are targeting for that library to see if you have a temporary or “downloads” folder indexed.

And of course make sure your downloader program isn’t simply dumping new episodes to the wrong location (Movies) rather than the show in your “TV Shows” library.

It might also have to do with the fact that this file is not named like a tv show episode at all.

Oh, and don’t download directly into your media folders. Particularly not if you have automatic or periodic library scans activated.
Always use a “staging” folder that lies outside of the media folder structure of Plex.
Only after the download/rip is finished and the file name has been perfected, move the file into the media folder.

I’ve noticed that Plex has pretty decent support for the standard internet naming format for the date-based shows like those used by late-night shows. Files can be added to Plex as-is name-wise.

It’s not ideal if you plan to keep these shows for a long time, but I think it’s sufficient to let it just detect the show with the existing name, watch, then delete.

I can’t explain the Plex TV Series Agent/Scanner marking anything as film.
Suggest you use the name of the show or its tvdb id.
The Late Late Show with James Cordon

Plex Dance that whole series, batch rename the files and folder with the correct title. I wouldn’t worry about the dates unless it chokes like Divideby0 said. The following worked when I tried it with Plex TV Series agent/scanner.

/share/TV/The Late Late Show with James Corden/Season 08/the.late.late.show.with.james.corden.2022.09.21.tyra.banks.mkv

In my library, I would follow the Plex naming scheme exactly (more future proof and faster matching).
