I have a problem that i did not have in Plex Media Player, which is giant subtitles.
I have set subtitle size to small in the player settings, yet when I pick a subtitle after playing a new file the size is gigantic and often ends up 3 lines that cover 40% of the hight of the screen. Considering im watching my conent on a 150 inch projector, that is definatly quite big.
Ive tried editing the plex.ini file in the loca appdata user folder, but it reverts after a little bit. I also tried deleting the .ini file, and that helps for a little bit before returning to giant size.
I can’t figure out what causes plex to readjust the size of the subtitles to 75+ fontsize.
Is the video file using the mp4 / m4v container format and the subtitles are internal?
A look in the Plex XML info could give you detail info about this.
Something to try:
Extract the subtitles from the video and save them beside the video file in SRT format.
You can use Subtitle Edit to do that.
Its mostly internal subtitles in the files I play. Sometimes external subtitles, but the problem is the same for both types. Manually picking tiny subtitles, adjust the subtitle to the right size (tiny size), and then picking small again manually set the subtitles to small size.
It seems to be a problem with applying the correct size of subtitle when it gets loaded. Since picking size manually afterwards fixes the problem.
Its a H264 MKV container, with embedded SRT subtitles.
I’ve been troubleshooting this problem for a bit last night.
The problem only appears untill the first time I play a file with a subtitle already selected before I push the play button. Any subsequent plays, even if I pick the subtitle after I push play will apply the correct sized font.
To summarize:
From a newly restartet plex server instance.
If I play a file, then pick a subtitle, it will result in a huge font. This will keep on happening for every time I pick a subtitle in a new file that I played before picking the subtitle.
However, If I pick a subtitle from the overview of the episode, then play the episode afterwards it result in a normal (small) sized subtitle.
After I have played any file with a subtitle already selected with the correct size, it will apply the correct subtitlesize upon selection afterwards, even if picked after I played the file.
It seems like there is some setting somewhere regarding subtitle font size, that do not get correctly applied untill after you play a file with a subtitle already selected with the correct font size.
