Glitch 2 TV shows Knight Rider & Knight Rider (2008)

ok how do you fix this bug or glitch or whatever in Plex

I have 2 TV show series… Knight Rider and Knight Rider (2008)

plex puts the 80s Knight Rider in the 2008 folder. not keeping them separate and buggers up the naming othe shows… and then puts a blue (2) number top right of each episode…
how do you get plex to separate 80s Knight rider and the 2008 rider
and they are labled as follows
Knight Rider
Knight Rider (2008)
they are labled from TVDB. website

How are your files named?
Do you have them in a proper folder structure?

1

Go to

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB

In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase

  1. Look up your show on TheTVDB
  2. Take the title as it is used on TheTVDB. If there is something in parentheses, take that too. If the title contains invalid characters (depends on your file system), like § : % *, simply leave them out.
  3. Check the naming and the folder structure of your show. Name the top folder of the show exactly after the title on TheTVDB. No abbreviations. No additional subfolders. No aliases. Add the (year) in parentheses to the folder name (the year, when episode 1 of season 1 of this show was aired).
  4. Name the episode files according to the above linked naming guide. Use the same title as for the top folder. Show's Title - s01e01 - additional info.ext (’- additional info’ can be left out)
  5. After you corrected the naming and folder structure, perform the Plex Dance with all files for this show.

I use Name-My-TV-Series-v1.8.4 to rename all my shows

so ill use Season 1 episode 1 for both
for Knight Rider 80s version it goes
Knight Rider (Folder Name)
Season 1 (Folder Name)
Knight Rider - S01E01 - Knight of the Phoenix (1) (File Name)

for 2008 Knight it goes as follows
Knight Rider (2008) (Folder Name)
Season 1 (Folder Name)
Knight Rider (2008) - S01E01 - A Knight in Shining Armor (File Name)

and plex puts both files in Knight 2008 folder with a blue 2 in the upper corner

and ill check what you mentioned tomorrow and see how that goes…

that program I use renames it from tvdb site
and this is what I already have

Screenshots 1 and 3:
you are still on the settings for the ‘Personal Media’ agent, which isn’t relevant here.
You must click on Plex Movie, TheTVDB and The Moviedatabase and repat the agent reordering there as well.

It also doesn’t really matter which software you are using to rename your files.
The files themselves are quite alright as they are.
But I am asking you to add the (year) also to the folder name of the old show.

After a mismatch and subsequent renaming of files and folders, you must perform the Plex Dance

I kinda under stand what you mean but screen shot would help… ill try renaming the knight rider folder for 80s just tvdb leaves knight rider as is no year for original series

ill try tomorrow

oh and if you mean the tab personal media shows… and then the TheTVDB tab
doesn’t matter if I click the TheTVDB tab… it will always default back to Persoanal Media Shows tab… as I figured if I click “TheTVDB” tab it should be the default but it doesn’t stay

That doesn’t matter.
After you click on TheTVDB, is the order of the metadata agents below like I recommended (i.e. with ‘Local Media Assets’ not in the topmost position)?

That should be quite alright.

Rename the show folder of the older show and include the year (1982).

Then perform the Plex Dance

seems to have fixed it… thank you
should all tv shows have the year… I find a problem also with movies 2 movies I put in (1982) (1995) on the ends of movies as sometimes 2 movies same name but it does the same puts 2 blue in the corner… is there a fix

and is there a better renaming program… the one I mentioned only uses tvdb database but I found some shows lot of mistakes or missing episodes on there… is there one that can read imdb.com ones…

I recommend it nowadays. At least in the folder name.

You can consider it almost mandatory for movies.
Here are some more tips about what to do and what to avoid for reliably matching movies:
How to find the discrepancy between number of files on disk and the number of movies in the Plex movie library

Many around here swear by Filebot.
It can do tv shows, movies and music. The renaming schemas are user-definable and it has a history, so you can revert wrong renaming operations if need be.
It’s only downside is, it’s not free.
